Guyz It's me again w/ my usual career sorrow Have hit a wall in current company so in process of finding another job. Had an interview today at a startup and I flaked on areas I shouldn't have flaked. It's all good learning though. I want to get out of financial services - but where?! Have no idea what exists outside. I want to do product management but 70-80% of roles require tech background and with summer hols on now that 20% is hard to find. Spinning up motivation in these times is difficult for everyone, right? So want to move out of UK again but is the most suitable approach to apply before going, or can I just ditch and spend a month somewhere and scout something? What can I offer to the Europeans that their own citizens can't fulfil? Feel like my mates in the creative world have it easy (they don't - but man I want that passion for work to come back again). Advice / guidance in what will be an emotional ride for the next several months, welcome

Caught up with Season 2 and still stand by this

Venture capital analyst in a bank. Would also be helping the business to bridge relationships with startups/fintechs.

Yeah - new role, the team just spun up. Fully aware I need to focus on myself and really can't quite believe how burnt I feel by it! She'd kill it from the skills she'd bring but I know I'd have tackled it from a different angle (she's gov/public policy and I'm business/tech), and that was the beauty of that role - it could've been self-defined. I look at across all my interests and all I've been working towards/advocating for and that role could've have brought it all together. The team is looking to expand but in the past she's tried to discourage me from moving into areas she's in (no joke and that's why this sourness is sticking as she really is sly), so not even keen to join alongside her. I could go on, but it's not the right thing to do! Agree though - all about driving success where I am now. I'm really sad but I am in a good place where I can do well. Must must must focus as it's becoming distracting.

Someone got the EXACT role I wanted before I had even got a chance to speak to the person heading up the team. I say someone, it's someone who started out same time in the company is me, same level and we caught up every so often at work. And it pains me she's got this role. She's sly which makes it more painful. The jealously is so REAL. Never felt so sour, for so long. The exact type of scenario to not focus on others, do you, support their grind etc etc etc. But fuck. Not taking it very well, particularly as I know she will kill it.

Ah yeh, spotted that. Apparently there's loads of references - I noticed only that and the bathtub.

Yeah train to busan was good ^ Binged on 'Dark' this week - decent sci-fi. It's conceptually a mash of several films but don't want to give anything away by mentioning. Last few eps required a lot of concentration although left with too many questions at the final ep.

About 23 euros towards end of 2013 It's got lost amongst redecoration - my parents messed with notes/paper stacks and haven't been able to find it since. v. painful... ffs

Ep 7 had me questioning whether I enjoyed the whole season. Ultimately, I did, but yeah it was terrible, misplaced and irrelevant.

Enjoyed Mindhunter. Really feeling shows that avoid the conventional/predictable nuances in plots and dialogue (i.e. it's nicely original).

Thanks for resources, will dig in this eve. In the context of banking - so yeah exposure of data and also read/write APIs like payment initiation. If I read through basic specifications of those that expose data, I broadly get it but am tasked with how to improve them, for example by building in filtering/search functionality to avoid speed issues in returning bulk data, or say adding nearby search requests for locator APIs. I'm having to read existing proved APIs like Mastercard to pull out what they've got but not quite fully understanding it. I'll check out Stripe though and compare across providers as think that's the faster route then attending courses/starting from scratch in learning languages, at least for time being. Might watch some tutorials.

Sorry I've not read this thread but anyone know what are the stepping stones to working with APIs? Currently assigned to API work from business side and feeling to do some side courses to support ongoing technical grasp, but no idea where to begin.

Big little lies is a decent tv drama Can't stand Shailene Woodley. Overused and same broken character in every movie.

One of the few dishes in which I enjoy lentils Eat meat once or twice a week these days but the dullness in the lack of variety in meals is creeping on me now. Need to set time aside to explore more recipes.

I cannot believe I've only just discovered silence trimmers in podcast apps and the thought of using audio speed ups.

Absolutely ridic the amount work is paying for an overseas trip. Definitely not worth sending me over tbh, well at least not with the cost that's attached - business class tickets with $300 per night accommodation for two weeks. I actually said I'd be happy to have Economy and find a cheaper place to stay myself (manager said the same) but secretary said it's best if everyone has equal arrangements and accommodation is through partner so have to go with them for security/insurance. It's a total of just over £8k Also the head of department took the piss - she had an open return business class ticket to US in Dec and never used it I'm obviously psyched and very grateful, but the extortionate hotel and flight isn't necessary! As a new member to the team, there's definitely gonna be some questions over why I get to go so I just hope they don't find out the price tag. Even more ridic they book this accommodation and tell me I have to pay for it myself and claim it back. Have to apply for another credit card just to do that. (still grateful)

Hmm, may check it out as doubt I'll go any other time with anyone. / Also going San Fran for work in Feb for two weeks if anyone's got recomms there. Hoping to meet mates that will take me around anyway. Going up Chinese New Year so will be a good first weekend.
