Arsenal v Blackburn Rovers, Sunday 4th October, SS1 13:30

32 posts in this topic

Arsenal will welcome back Theo Walcott and Nicklas Bendtner for the visit of Blackburn on Sunday but Eduardo will be missing. The England international has yet to figure in a competitive first-team game this season because of a back problem but he did have a successful run-out in a behind-closed-doors game with Olympiacos Under-20s on Tuesday.Bendtner has fully recovered from his car crash over the weekend but Eduardo is out after aggravating a thigh muscle against the Greek side's senior team."Unfortunately, we lost Eduardo after he came on [against Olympiacos]," Arsène Wenger told Arsenal TV Online on Thursday."It was a gamble to play him and unfortunately his muscle injury got worse. He will be out. It is the same thigh muscle [as before] and has recurred a few times now. But Walcott and Bendtner are available."Manuel Almunia (chest infection) has been missing since the defeat at Manchester City on September 12. The keeper is getting close to a return but, in all probability, it will not happen this weekend."Manuel Almunia is not far," said Wenger. "I will assess him Friday or Saturday but he looks unlikely to be ready."On a brighter note, the manager revealed that Lukasz Fabianski (knee) and Samir Nasri (broken leg) were nearing a return to training. They have seen only 45 minutes of pre-season action between them this term."After the international break, both of them should be very close to being in the squad," said Wenger."They should be back in training before the end of the break. Then they will need a little bit of time to get back but they have had very good basic fitness work so once they practice with the team again it will be a very short time to wait."

Smh.Almunia I could laugh at, on certain moments even co-sign, but Nicklas he got a f*ck*ng great sell-on profit.

Eduardo already looking like a goner...

Arsenal striker Eduardo has been forced to pull out of the Croatia squad for the friendly against Qatar. The 26-year-old aggravated a thigh muscle in the Gunners' 2-0 win over Olympiakos in the UEFA Champions League earlier in the week.Certain to miss out against Qatar, Brazilian-born Eduardo will be hoping to return in time for the World Cup qualifier in Kazakhstan four days later.Nikica Jelavic has been called up to the squad as a likely replacement following a string of impressive performances for Rapid Vienna."Because of a thigh muscle injury, Croatian national team player Eduardo da Silva is most likely not able to play in the upcoming matches against Qatar and Kazakhstan," read a statement on the federation's official site."The good news is that Eduardo will still come to the camp to finish his rehabilitation process with the medical staff in case he can show there might be a chance to play in Astana, on October 14

Vito Mannone will get another chance to shine this weekend. The Italian goalkeeper is set to resume between the posts when Blackburn visit Emirates Stadium on Sunday because Manuel Almunia is not fully fit.The Arsenal No 1 is back in training after a chest infection but is not ready to reclaim his first-team spot. And Wenger has no qualms about picking the man who has kept three consecutive clean sheets and performed heroics at Fulham last weekend.“Almunia is very close now, he is in full training and he is very close. But Mannone is in goal this weekend,” confirmed the manager at his pre-match press conference.“Vito has done very well but I cannot say he has exceeded my expectations because I had never seen him play at that level in a consistent way.“You have to accept that as long as the player is not under stress with the pressure to perform, you don’t know how he responds. And he has managed that very well.”
