A report published today by the Human Genetics Commission states that over three quarters of black men aged between 18 and 35 have their DNA profiles posted on the national database. It feeds into increasing concern that black people are being disproportionately targeted by police officers. Justice Ministry statistics published this year showed that since 2007 there had been more than a threefold rise in the number of black people stopped and searched under counter-terrorism laws — almost twice that for white people. There had also been a two-thirds increase in the number of black people searched under the so-called Section 60 powers, which allow police to carry out searches without having grounds to suspect that the person is carrying a weapon. This compared with a 41 per cent increase for white people. In Brixton, South London, where a local population collectively speaks more than 100 languages, the vast majority of young black men approached by The Times yesterday said that they had been placed on the DNA database. Some had DNA swabs taken when they were arrested — and later convicted — for offences such as robbery. Others, however, said they had been targeted for spurious reasons. They said police regularly used excuses such as motoring offences to arrest them so that their DNA could be taken.

if hair's not available, it's blood, but the process gets a bit longer coz they can't do that by force.

Black people are disproportinately targetted by police because there is a disproportionate amount of crime coming from the black community.why is it so hard to understand?

Keeping the DNA of innocent people goes against the Human Rights Convention and the Data Protection Act. Why is that so hard to understand!?
