Falklands War 201X ?

99 posts in this topic

Sounds like it may happen, sending over Navy ships to patrol the sea and islands.

Basically the Argentinians are considering putting up a blockade to stop ppl coming for the oil

Falklands Islands is UK owned, so of course UK will take measures to safeguard it.

War, huh?

Good God, what is it good for?

Absolutely nothing.

Well considering Thatcher took it there in 1982 more or less over the same reasons that has arisen recently, it won't surprise me that Britain tries to resolve the situation quickly through diplomatic channels. Over 250 plus men died back then, I doubt they'd want a repeat.

Argentinians are just bigging up their chest, when push comes to shove they'll settle for a little bit of the oil change IF they even find any out their

Ain't heard that name round these parts in awhile, what happened to the days when England picked it's enemies solely off football matches.

Don't understand how we can lay claim to an island half way around the world just off the coast of Argentina...

Don't understand how we can lay claim to an island half way around the world just off the coast of Argentina...

Way back when the British empire just Bushkined bare countries like 'that that that that's mine'

/

I can't remember exactly but some time in the 18th century a few countries claimed and counter claimed Falklands and Britain got it and has had it since. I believe it was Spain and France who contested claim too.

Argentina actually invaded the island, that's what kicked off the war.

We aren't anywhere near that kind of level where war could be possible. Not yet anyway.

Hopefully its just the argies puffing their chests out, even though there militarys barely changed since 1982, were in a pretty sh*t state to so it could go either way.

All Argentina can do is puff out it's chest.

Modernisation plans have been pushed back 15 years to 2015 due to the economic slump, which has led to a cut in expenditure, meaning cancelling all the new programmes and most of their funding is going towards paying wages rather than purchasing any new hardware.

They got battered in the 80's and would get battered again. They can't afford it and they don't want it with the Eurofighter Typhoons that strutted their stuff today.

Yeh true say they dont want it with them bad boys, big obvious advantage they have is the re-supply element of logistics/man power. But yeah thinking about it will just be another smashing.

They can't use the Eurofighter over there, it is a land based aircraft. All they will have is the Harrier GR mk7, which is only good for bombing and some close combat. They retired their Sea Harriers, which are air defence fighters. In a few years time the Royal Navy will have the F-35 and then they can kick Argentine's arse (stealth, VSTOL, super sonic).
