Giggs' Tour cancelled

British rapper Giggs has had his UK tour pulled after police warned promoters over safety fears.

Giggs, from Peckham, London, and recently signed to XL Recordings, was due to play 10 dates starting tomorrow in Birmingham. However, police confirmed that they warned organisers about security concerns after being contacted by the promoters for Giggs' London date on 4 March at the O2 Islington Academy.

An official statement read: "Police advised that there were concerns about potential risks to the event, if it took place. It is routine for police to work with licensed venues on a regular basis to identify and manage risk assessments for forthcoming performances, but the decision to cancel an event is a matter for the venue itself."

This isn't the first time Giggs has run into trouble with the law. In 2003, he spent two years in prison for possessing firearms without licence. Ever since, the rapper has complained that Operation Trident has followed his movements, informing venues and record labels of his past in an attempt to shut down his musical career.

Giggs recently told the Observer's Paul Morley that Trident contacted XL on the day before he was signed to scare them off. He claimed people from his label were "shaken up" after getting the call and were unsure whether to offer him a record deal.

Giggs believes that police phoned venues before the start of the tour, exaggerating security risks.

He told BBC 1Xtra: "This is how it's been from the beginning, it's just that everyone is hearing about it now. Before it used to be low key, people didn't really believe me."

Considering his backstory, though, this kind of publicity may not be too harmful.

As the rapper himself said: "I just want to thank police for all this great promotion that they're giving me, all these cancellations, which are making me more powerful."

more publicity to him i guess...

also didnt know about his gun charges and how he says trident are tryna scare off venues/record labels....

this is why everyone should buy the single. its only 79 p.

if man starts gettin top ten police cnt do sh*t.

<_<

They will do what they want. If he was on a bigger label he'd stand a better chance.

I think he's currently top 60 (58 or some sh*t).

dont think he got singed to be a top 10 artist tbh

that doesnt seem to be the direction he's goin atm

prob one of them album sells more than singles type deal where they just drop like 1 or 2 singles to really push the album n hope for critical acclaim n that

doesnt seem to be a Chipmunk / Stryder type thing

It's only gonna get add to the infamy of his music & of UK Hip-Hop/Rap in general which is a GOOD thing IMO.

What WE need to do, like Brisco said is to actually invest in the music ourselves, so it becomes a full-blown movement.

I like this sh*t, come like the whole NWA - 2Live Crew sh*t back in the day.

no they got top ten, and had trouble at their events then got black listed.

thts a next ting.

So Solid were generally moving loose & flagrant anyway.

Remember what youre saying is speculation you know. Going on like its factual

Before this happened you could easily say "He's signed and it making it legit now so they'll let man breathe", but that isnt the case. They could very well stay f*ckin with mans sh*t. He needs powerful backers

There isnt much difference imo. XL & Relentless are practically the same, feds were looking for an excuse to knock So Solid. Their PR was sh*t too. Bad advice f*cked them over.

I created an iTunes Store account just for UK artists.

And I don't usually like to apply affirmative action-style purchasing to music, but in cases like this....
