The Football Association is reviewing security around the England team after reports that manager Fabio Capello and the players were bugged at a private meeting.

The alleged recording - which is understood to have been made at the team's hotel before a match against Egypt - was apparently offered for sale to several newspapers.

The FA is taking steps to block any publication of the material under privacy laws.

The squad is currently preparing for the World Cup finals being held in South Africa this summer.

Sky News sports presenter Jacquie Beltrao said the meeting was the first time the team had got together this year and followed a series of sex scandals involving a number of players.

She said: "It was a great opportunity for Capello to sit them all down, get them all together, do a bit of team bonding, maybe talk tactics, maybe talk to them about the practicalities of what's going to happen at the World Cup.

"(The alleged bugging) is massively disappointing."

Sky's Nick Powell added: "It could be the media will themselves be aware that, in the run-up to the World Cup, the public wouldn't take kindly to anything they saw as the media doing anything to harm England's World Cup campaign.

"But some media organisation somewhere would, no doubt, if such a juicy tape does exist... somebody somewhere, not necessarily in this country, might think, 'Thank you very much.'"

Despite the alleged breach before Wednesday's game, England beat Egypt at Wembley 3-1, with two goals from Tottenham Hotspur striker Peter Crouch.

But the team has recently weathered reports of an alleged affair between England defender John Terry and his former team-mate Wayne Bridge's ex-girlfriend.

The claims led to Terry being stripped of the national team's captaincy by Capello.

England left-back Ashley Cole has also endured scandalous reports and the break-up of his marriage to pop star Cheryl Cole.
