Insurance on lost phone

To summarise

lost my phone over a week ago in shanghai

police station won't give a crime reference no. they don't speak english & told me to go to the station nearest the incident (which is FAR).

my insurance states report loss within 24 hours.

is it possible for me to wait out 2-3 months until back in ldn and blag that i lost it in a restaurant there?

Don't think your standard phone insurance covers overseas, thats what holiday insurance is for

your best off saying you lost it here

Yeah I'm talking about travel insurance. There's no way I can get a crime reference no.

If my only option is to report it here, I have to fabricate a story once nearby a different police station and somehow bring a chinese person with me to translate.

what if someone already has your phone and has racked up a huge bill???

if i was you i would get a mate to call the police station in the uk and get a reference no.

then you call the mobile network bar the phone and get a new one sent out

If I am to go to the police right now, explain my phone was stolen (or lost), will I get a reference no. straight away? Or will I be waiting for a period of 24-48 hours?

You dont get a crime ref # if you say it was lost

You ring up and report it straight to your network

If you have insurance that covers losses, then do that, though be careful, if its deemed to be your fault it voids the insurance
