South Korea have cut their provisional squad for the World Cup in South Africa this summer down to 26 players.

Coach Huh Jong-moo originally named a 30-man provisional squad, but axed four players from the line-up on Monday, a day after the team beat Ecuador 2-0 in an international friendly in Seoul.

The four players to be cut are defenders Kang Min-soo, Hwang Jae-won and Cho Won-hee and midfielder Kim Chi-woo, who all play in South Korea's domestic competition, the K-League.

The only dismissed player to feature in the Taegeuk Warriors' win on Sunday was Hwang, who was brought on as a substitute for captain and Manchester United star Park Ji-sung in the 46th minute.

Defensive midfielder Cho is currently signed with Wigan Athletic, but was loaned out to K-League side Suwon Bluewings earlier this year after a handful of appearances for the Premier League club.

Warm-up

South Korea will take on arch-rivals Japan in a friendly next Monday before leaving for their pre-World Cup training camp in Austria.

Huh is due to submit the final 23-man squad for the tournament to Fifa on 1st June.

There are a few injury concerns for the coach after midfielder Kim Jae-sung limped off against the South Americans.

He should be fully recovered next week but striker Lee Dong-gook could be out of action for two to three weeks after suffering a thigh injury.

South Korea will take on Argentina, Greece and Nigeria in Group B of the tournament.

Revised preliminary South Korea World Cup squad:

Lee Woon-jae (Suwon), Kim Young-kwang (Ulsan), Jung Sung-ryong (Seongnam), Kwak Tae-hwi (Kyoto), Kim Dong-jin (Ulsan), Kim Hyung-il (Pohang), Oh Beom-seok (Ulsan), Lee Young-pyo (Al Hilal), Lee Jung-soo (Kashima Antlers), Hwang Jae-won (Pohang), Cha Doo-ri (Freiburg), Cho Yong-hyung (Jeju), Koo Ja-cheol (Jeju), Ki Sung-yong (Celtic), Kim Bo-kyung (Oita), Kim Nam-il (Tom Tomsk), Shin Hung-min (Pohang), Kim Jae-sung (Pohang), Kim Jung-woo (Gwangju), Lee Chung-yong (Bolton), Park Ji-sung (Manchester United), Park Ju-young (Monaco), Ahn Jung-hwan (Dalian Shide), Lee Seung-ryul (FC Seoul), Yeom Ki-hun (Suwon), Lee Keun-ho (Jubilo Iwata), Lee Dong-guk (Jeonbuk).

France cut six from squad

Just one more player to be cut by Domenech

By Ben Collins Last updated: 17th May 2010

Ben Arfa: World Cup heartache

France coach Raymond Domenech trimmed his provisional World Cup squad down to 24 on Monday.

A 30-man squad was named last week and Les Bleus' boss has now decided to cut another six players from his plans for this summer's finals in South Africa.

Marseille striker Hatem Ben Arfa was the most notable absentee, while goalkeeper Mickael Landreau and defender Adil Rami (both Lille) also missed out.

And there was bad news for Rennes as all three of their players named in the initial squad were sent home, namely defender Rod Fanni, midfielder Yann M'Vila and forward Jimmy Briand.

Training camp

The new 24-man group will take part in a three-day training camp next week at altitude in the French ski resort of Tignes.

Domenech is scheduled to announce his final 23-man squad on 27th May, with a defender or striker set to miss out, before Les Bleus head off for another training camp in Tunisia.

The 1998 winners and 2006 runners-up will face Mexico, South Africa and Uruguay in Group A.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Hugo Lloris (Lyon), Steve Mandanda (Marseille), Cedric Carrasso (Bordeaux);

Defenders: Eric Abidal (Barcelona), Gael Clichy, William Gallas, Bakary Sagna (all Arsenal), Patrice Evra (Manchester United), Marc Planus (Bordeaux), Anthony Reveillere (Lyon), Sebastien Squillaci (Sevilla);

Midfielders: Abou Diaby (Arsenal), Lassana Diarra (Real Madrid), Alou Diarra, Yoann Gourcuff (both Bordeaux), Florent Malouda (Chelsea), Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich), Jeremy Toulalan (Lyon);

Strikers: Nicolas Anelka (Chelsea), Thierry Henry (Barcelona), Andre-Pierre Gignac (Toulouse), Sidney Govou (Lyon), Djibril Cisse (Panathinaikos), Mathieu Valbuena (Marseille).

Parred off the berbers/arabs. I knew France was racist, have no equal rights laws, hate anyone who isn't white but still, par!!!

Save that for another thread mate, they both havent had the best seasons, so they didn't get chosen.
