West Ham have announced they have sacked manager Gianfranco Zola after a traumatic season which nearly ended in relegation.

Zola led the side to just seven home wins in a campaign disrupted by public criticism from the club's new co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold.

The announcement was made following a meeting between Zola and the owners to discuss the club's future structure. The future of his assistant Steve Clarke is unclear.

A club statement said: "West Ham United can confirm that they have terminated the contract of Gianfranco Zola.

"The Board of Directors would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him well for the future. The Club will now be focusing its efforts on seeking a replacement."

Was to be expected - statistically west ham's worst ever manager, hasn't been helped with the backroom stuff that has been going on but has made some odd decisions and ultimately if the bottom 3 teams weren't so sh*t west ham would of been down this year.

Sullivan and Gold take no prisoners when it comes to changing managers.

They finished with 35 points, most seasons that would see you relegated.

Tatically he wasn't great and seemed to love this 4-3-3 formation even when it wasn't working. I know a few hammers who are happy he has gone.

I know he is a nice guy but we know where they finished. Sure at a stable club he would of done better - hope he gets a chance. That west ham job would of been hard for even the most experienced manager

PeeWeeHammer Best Man Ever? Why because he made a coffee? There is a bloke in my local Costa's who can do that..... he can probably manage a football team better too. Glad the INEPT ITALIAN is out of my club, the worst manager we have ever (EVER) had. 5 hours ago
