After signing David Villa from Valencia, Barcelona president Joan Laporta is determined to leave the club with even more of a stellar line-up by securing the signature of Cesc Fabregas from Arsenal in the coming days.According to Goal.com Spain, the Blaugrana are keen to tie up the deal for the Gunners star before the World Cup begins on June 11, as they are concerned that his price will increase during the tournament. In addition, the club's presidential elections take place on June 13 and Laporta is desperate to fulfil the promise of bringing Fabregas back to Barcelona, and leave his successor with a star-studded squad and one of the world's top coaches at his disposal."We have never paid over the market price [for a player]," Laporta is quoted as saying by Goal.com Spain."Yes, Cesc is a player who we are interested in and Arsenal know this as well - we should come to a market price. We will do everything for him to come, but it must be at a logical price."We will not pay over the odds, but we will make a special effort for him because he has made his position clear and has said that he wants to come. It's a gesture which is appreciated and which must be noted."http://www.goal.com/en/news/11/transfer-zone/2010/05/29/1948558/barcelona-will-not-be-bullied-by-arsenal-over-cesc-fabregas

A member of Sandro Rosell's presidential bid believes it will be "so easy" for Barcelona to sign Cesc Fabregas despite Arsenal's insistence their captain is not for sale.Fabregas has long been linked with a return to Barcelona and the Catalan giants submitted a formal bid on Monday evening which was swiftly rejected by Arsenal. However, the Spain international spent six years at Barcelona's youth academy at La Masia and has made no secret of his desire to be part of Pep Guardiola's team.Josep Maria Bartomeu, who will become sporting vice-president if Rosell is successful in the elections in 10 days' time, believes it will be a simple matter for Barca to sign the 23-year-old midfielder. He said: "A player who was made in La Masia, who has said publicly that he wants to come to Barca, who has said so to his coach and who can count on the support of Guardiola, it seems so easy to us that whoever goes into the negotiations will find themselves in the best conditions to seal the deal."All the players have a price but we can't value what Cesc's is because we would be intervening in a deal that the club are handling at present."The price of a player is always in relation to the number of years he has left on his contract, but in this case it seems that the wind is blowing in our favour."Fabregas, who moved to Arsenal in 2003, has five more years on his contract with the Gunners.
These guys are taking the piss.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is still hopeful of persuading Arsenal to part with Cesc Fabregas despite having a 35million offer for the Spain international rejected this week. The 23-year-old is under contract to Arsenal until the summer of 2015 but last month expressed his desire to head back to the Nou Camp at a promotional event in the Catalan capital. Barca are keen to make that wish become reality, and on Tuesday submitted a written offer to Arsenal that Laporta has said was worth 35million euros."It's a price that we consider to be his market value. Arsenal have rejected it. Now the sporting director (Txiki Begiristain) must decide what should be the next step," Laporta was quoted as saying by Spanish daily AS."We are in negotiations and we'll see how they turn out. At times, these operations are resolved at one speed, and others at another."We have to do everything we can to convince them (Arsenal) that the best thing for all is to reach an agreement."The outgoing Barca president remains optimistic the Primera Division champions will be able to secure the services of the Arsenal skipper, but admits it may not be easy persuading the Gunners to let their prize asset leave."The club have full confidence that Arsenal will end up understanding the situation," Laporta was quoted as saying on his club's website.

That represents good business in the real world, not the football manager world. Not brushing man, but I agree with:

I have a feeling Wenger could accept that...Hope not.
Considering what Wenger could do with £38m considering we've already spent £10mil and STILL looking a next defender, who knows.

Guest Awesome Kong

Doubt we would get Oezil. Nasri has the potential to take over Fabregas position. For some reason I think Denilson will step up this year like how song did season gone.

Speaking on TF1, the national French Television Station, Wenger told viewers he has spoken to the Barcelona President, Sandro Rosell, and told him in no uncertain terms that Cesc is not for sale.Wenger was speaking as a match summariser following the World Cup Final, won by an Iniesta goal set up to perfection by the Arsenal Captain. This news follows the report in this morning’s Sunday Times, which detailed news of a 2 Million pound property that has just been purchased by Cesc in the leafy Hertfordshire town of St Albans.About time the Arsenal knockers came out and apologised, they were pretty quick to come forward ( as per the norm ) when the rumours of the Barca bid were flying around, canning all and sundry at the club for not putting up a defence. My feelings before the World Cup were that we would see Cesc in an Arsenal shirt for another season, my feelings after the World Cup are exactly the same… but with a lot more conviction.Congratulations, Cesc Fabregras… Arsenal Captain, European Champion… now World Champion.
