Man City release Petrov, Sylvinho & Adebayor

26 posts in this topic

Martin Petrov, Sylvinho and Benjani are senior players who will leave City this summer.

All three are out of contract and free to negotiate deals at new clubs.

Each has made a noteworthy contribution during their time at the City of Manchester Stadium and the club wishes them well in their futures.

Bulgarian winger Petrov arrived during Sven-Goran Eriksson’s reign and despite being cursed by injury managed 57 starts for the Blues.

The 31-year-old former Atletico Madrid and Wolfsburg man produced several match winning performances scoring 15, often spectacular, goals along the way

Zimbabwe international captain Benjani was also an Eriksson purchase and shot to instant popularity amongst City fans scoring the winning goal on his debut in a 2-1 derby success at Old Trafford.

Another to be beset by injury problems at various points of his stay, the 31-year-old was a periphery figure this season and eventually went on loan to Sunderland at the end of the campaign. In all he made 27 starts for the Blues and scored seven goals.

Veteran Brazil defender Sylvinho came on a one-year contract at the start of this season straight from helping Barcelona to Champions League success.

The 35-year-old found his first team starts restricted to just nine but became an instant hit in the dressing room with his professionalism and knowledge that he was always ready to pass on.

Had it not been for Adam Johnson’s stunning effort in the 1-1 draw at Sunderland, Sylvinho’s eye-catching, long-range FA Cup goal at Scunthorpe would have been voted the goal of the season.

Also released this summer are young striker Jack Redshaw who is interesting Rochdale, goalkeeper Tobias Johansen and midfielder Karl Moore.

Everton are in contact with released Manchester City midfielder Martin Petrov.

The Bulgaria international was cut loose by City this week.

And skysports.com says Everton have already made moves to persuade Petrov that he should make the switch to Merseyside.

Petrov, who was with City for three years after leaving Atletico Madrid, is reportedly settled in the North West and Everton hope that will help them seal a deal.

Bulgaria winger Martin Petrov has agreed to join Bolton Wanderers on a free transfer after leaving Manchester City.

The 31-year-old was released from City this summer after his contract at Eastlands expired, with manager Roberto Mancini deciding not to renew terms.

Petrov's signing will be seen as something of a coup for the Trotters in capturing a player with proven ability and who impressed in his early days in the Premier League after joining from Atletico Madrid.

He becomes Bolton boss Owen Coyle's first full signing of the summer at the Reebok Stadium, with the former Burnley managed expected to make more additions in the coming months.

Petrov initially enjoyed a successful stint in then-manager Sven Goran Eriksson's City team, however once the Swede departed and the big-money takeover by the Abu Dhabi United Group took place, the midfielder saw his chances become more limited by new players and a succession of injuries.

Overall he made 66 appearances for City, scoring 12 goals, some of which were outstanding strikes with his powerful left foot and he has also won 77 caps for his country.

He joins Bolton on 1st July under the Bosman ruling and he had also been linked with a move to Aston Villa.

very good signing for them

Yeah, Everton, making moves. :Y:

I actually don't get why they signed Boateng.

Neither do I get why there are reports saying they have all but completed a deal for Yaya Toure and are in talks with David Silva. f*ck MAN CITY!

who is always injured...

and massively inconsistent, and relies on his pace aged 31.

about the right level for him, IMO.

Citeh signing Boateng is one of them moves that genuinely frustrates me. I don't dislike Citeh, don't begrudge them their money, they're a proper club (unlike Chelsea) who have suffered like most of us and fair play to them for winning the lottery.

But Boateng cost them £10million and probably 50k a week over 5 years. He's no better (or worse) than Richards, just his stocks a little higher at the moment due to form.

Richards, local lad who came through the ranks and loves the club will be farmed out to Spurs for about half, will probably end up reaching his potential there under a manager (as much as I hate him) who is willing to put the effort in on the training ground to work with players.

Haven't Citeh learned anything? Why are they trying to replace these players? Why can't they build around Hart, Onuoha, Richards, Ireland etc instead of trying to replace them with randoms off the continent for twice what they'll replace these for.

Should have kept Hughes.

Mancini only has 6 months left at City, if them players love the club they will hang about and see whats good.

The only one who IMO shouldnt wait is Hart cos he is a keeper.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was their number 1 this season tbh. He's gonna start the season cos of Given's injury, decent form and he'll keep the shirt, I reckon.
