England under-21 midfielder Dan Gosling will leave Everton for nothing after the Premier League determined that he could leave after a administrative error by the club.

Gosling pointed out that he could depart Goodison Park at the end of his current deal without any fee due to the fact that Everton had not make him a contract offer in writing.

The Premier League investigated the situation and ruled that the Toffees erred and that Gosling would be permitted to leave on a free transfer, according to The Mirror.

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright made verbal offers to Gosling, hoping that the 20-year-old would sign a new deal, but no written offer was made prior to the mid-May cut-off date.

Now Everton will be unable to earn a possible £4 million they would have made at a tribunal should Gosling have moved to another Premier League club.

Gosling was rotated in and out of the lineup by Toffees manager David Moyes for the last two years and the England under-21 starlet was hoping to move to a new team to secure more first-team playing time.

Sunderland and Newcastle United are said to be the favourites to land Gosling, with West Ham United also interested in the young midfield star.
