But I sometimes use others success as a benchmark for where am suppose to be in life/ acheived

yes. i would never be bitter about another person's achievements, but i'm not the type of person to be content with being the 'dumber' one. it's healthy to surround yourself with ambitious people, helps you push yourself further.

Yes, I like to know my competition.

I personally think the aim of life is to learn. From acknowledging successful people you are then able to calculate and produce your own success.
