National campaign of civil disobedience

ConDem job cuts must be fought with a national campaign of civil disobedience, a union leader demanded last night.

Bob Crow, general secretary of the RMT transport union, called for co-ordinated "peaceful demonstrations and civil disobedience" similar to those which killed off Margaret Thatcher's Poll Tax.

And the GMB union warned 240,000 public sector job cuts were already lined up even though the public spending review isn't due until next month.

Mr Crow said demos could include sit-down protests but "not smashing windows" as happened in the Poll Tax riots in 1990.

On the eve of the Trade Union Congress in Manchester, he also raised the prospect of workers across the union movement striking to defend jobs.

This week, a hardhitting motion to protect public services and backed by unions representing 4.5million workers will call for a fightback of campaigning and "joint union industrial action".

And Mark Serwotka, leader of the Public and Commercial Services said backing was growing for a BOB national demonstration against the cuts early next year that could see hundreds of thousands taking to the streets.

Would love to see something like this happen on a large scale, it needs to happen eventually or this country will go even further down the shitter than it already has under this government.

But like Brisco said, too many people these days would rather click "like" or join a facebook group than actually go outside and do something.
