Titus Bramble has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and urinating in a public place.

The Sunderland defender, 30, is set to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court on November 10.

But police said today there would be no further action taken against the Premier League footballer over an allegation of possession of class A drug.

His lawyer Phil Smith, from London-based Tuckers Solicitors, said: "My client vehemently denies these charges and will be vigorously contesting them."

Cleveland Police said in a statement: "A 30-year-old man from Wynyard has been charged by police with two counts of sexual assault and urinating in a public place and will appear at Teesside Magistrates' Court on November 10.

"The man was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday September 28 on suspicion of sexual assault and possession of a Class A drug.

"He was re-arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on October 14 after a second allegation was made.

"He has been released with no further action on suspicion of possession of a Class A drug."

The star, who lives on the exclusive Wynyard Park estate near Billingham, Stockton-on-Tees, was suspended from his team after the allegations against him surfaced, pending the outcome of a club investigation.

Sunderland footballer Titus Bramble is facing a third sexual assault charge.

The 30-year-old, of Wynyard, Teesside, was accused of indecently touching two women in separate incidents in Yarm in September.

At Teesside Magistrates' Court, he was told an additional sexual assault charge relating to one of the existing complainants was to be added.

The defender denied the new charge. He had already denied the two original charges.

Mr Bramble was formally cleared of a charge of urinating in a public place after the prosecution said it was no longer being pursued.

The case was committed to crown court and a trial will take place on a date still to be set.

The player started his career at Ipswich Town and also played for Newcastle United and Wigan Athletic.
