The day after tomorrow

Freezing temperatures and snow are set to hit Britain this week, forecasters have warned.

Part of the country had a sample of what is to come as snow fell in County Durham at the weekend, making driving conditions hazardous.

London is due for it's first snow of the winter on Thursday and 7.6th (3in) is forecast for the hills in he south-east, including the Chilterns and North and South Downs.

Scotland will see heavier snow wig up to 15cm (6in) in places.

Daytime temperatures will struggle to reach between 6C and 8C today before winds from Russia will push them down to -1C in the north or 0C in southern parts of the country. These will plummet to -10C, matching the coldest temperature of the year in March on top of a Scottish mountain. Expected heavy frost and ice sparked a Met Office warning of dangerous icy roads and pavements. Met Office forecaster Tony Burgess said: 'The coldest weather of the autumn so far is coming down from northern parts of Russia and the Arctic.

'It brings the threat of snow on Thursday and Friday, mainly in the eastern side of the country.

'It will be cold - we're talking about daytime maximums in many areas down to 2C by Friday.

'Scotland will be cold and could stay sub-zero during the day, particularly over higher ground.'

Brian Gaze of The Weather Outlook said there would be little respite: 'There is no sign of a breakdown in the weather pattern so the cold is expected to persist into next week with snow or sleet risk and sharp or severe overnight frost.'

f*ck man last year i was on some high street in essex when it was snowing hard, took a right turn at the traffic lights and when skidding sideways up on the curb and just stopped before a shop widow. Lucky it was like 3am or i would of been mowing people down.
