Building a Home Theatre PC (HTPC) Setup

11 posts in this topic

Been thinking about this for a while, got the following Laptop:

Pretty sick media laptop and comes with HDMI and all the usual connections.

Anyone else setup a HTPC using their laptop?

Gonna upgrade to Windows 7, got a wireless keyboard and mouse and a 1.5TB external HDD and a Sony Bravia 32in TV.

Dont know whether to invest in an Audio Reciever and seperate speakers or go for a 5.1 ch speaker setup.

Also, waiting for the Jan sales for the PS3.

Yeah, i heard onkyo is the one.

Am looking for my laptop to just jam there, another monitor to use for browsing when the TV is being used and a PS3 poss in the jan sales.

Will need the receiver to hook the whole lot up.

In two minds now, might just cop another laptop for the Media thing, can't be assed to build or buy a PC.

Tbh XBMC > WMC unless your using it for live tv.

Boxee is alright it's based on XBMC but more more dumbed down and geared towards streaming content and there's not much it offers for UK.

Instead of buying a laptop, probably be better off buying a Acer Revo or something, really small but pretty powerful enough to play 1080p HD.
