how can a party force its members to resign?

I'm also baffled by this.

I think if they want they can keep their seats and be expelled from the party, in which case what does this achieve for the party?

my district was previously Lib Dem and changed to Conservative, I feel I did the right thing by voting Lib Dem considering Labour was so out of possibility

Maaan, I complain about everything. I still get on with it, I just point out the flaws first. Don't take it too seriously.
