Do any of you guys speak another language fluently? To the point where you could get by living in a foreign country?

I'm looking to finish my degree in either France or Spain and wouldn't mind learning the language abit before going. Did the standard 5 years of language in school but that was too long ago to be of any use and I wasn't particularly interested in it at the time.

Clocked one piece of software called Rosetta Stone which is selling for £479. I would download for free obviously but I'm guessing it must be alright for that price?

Rosetta Stone

I'm not looking to pay £100's for a college/uni course so wanted something I could do myself.

I've had a Swahili Rosetta Stone CD on my PC waiting to be used for a few years.

but nah just English, if I made an effort I'd be speaking like at least 3 languages by now but its just never seemed that great.

I tried using rosetta stone for Chinese but it was awful. I'm sure it's excellent for other languages though.

Sort of lost the motivation to carry on with Chinese so going to have to start from scratch in the summer.

I need to move to another country so I am thrown in at the deep end, that will motivate me because right now my speaking is a lot better than my reading/writing.

trust.

my aunt moved to germany and shes fluent now. pronounciation/accent sound on point as far as i can tell (then again im no expert).

on the other hand, cant say how much it would help your reading/writing - i suppose you'd have to learn to read, a bit, but wouldnt you speak a lot more than you'd need to write?

depends on ur job etc i guess

Russian

But I sound like a completely different person in Russian

Since I went to uni I have improved my English accent so I sound more refined, but when I speak Russian I speak in a harsh Moscow accent with all f*cked up grammar and slang and random belorussian words and slurred vowels. Ie I sound like a working class Moscow person.

I also have quite good French, I think I could definitely get by in France without having to use much English if I went there tomorrow
