Take few weeks to silently understand the workings of the work place and personalities within itmmmmppl will always be welcoming first couple of weks but after that all can change

Don't give too much of yourself hold back.at work ppl prey on the tome of person you are try to work you outand later use it against you to serve themselves

Try not to be too dominating or too passive try to find a middle ground that doesn't make you come accross big headed or at the other end of the scale weak and a easy target

Remember just because you work within a group and a team enviroment doesn't mean you have to make an effort with everyone to keep a good atmosphere..that's life you can't get on with everyone.and straining to do so will make work more unbearable so than if you just passed over the folk you don't feel

Don't get involved with office politics backbiting gossiping etxc it never bodes well.yeah you can make good friendships at work but if that intails dragging collegues into it .it not worth the inevitable hassle

Overhall just come to your own conclusions of your workplace don't let others guide you..their experiences won't relativly compare to yours..keep work life seperate from personal life don't let the two merge and or youl find youl be going to work and taking stress home

Everyone needs an oulet from work so don't merge the two

OVERALL the most important thing is to always keep your options open and to you and to yourself

Never look a gift horse in the mouth.

E.g If an opportunity comes up which means you may have to work late / do alot more work / working away from the office, volunteer your services instead of trying to get out of it. You can use this opporrtunity for your career development. A promotion opportunity may come up in the future and your experience doing this extra work could be the difference between you and the person sitting next to you getting the job.

Just to add some personal experience:

A few months ago, volunteers were asked to go to Liverpool for a day to do something quite basic. Everyone in the office was laughing and saying only a mug will go.

I volunteered to go, knowing full well doing the job would not aid my career at all.

The reason I went?

I knew that one of the senior managers in my office was attending, which meant a two hour train journey each way sitting with a senior manager. I talked with him about my job history, career options, where I see the business etc. This put me on his radar and it's no coincidence that a little while after that a good promotion came up and I was recommended for the role.
