Yes but Iraq and Libya were bombed because of the rulers of those countries.

I'm not supporting the government here. Politics is a game and there are winners and losers. The American/British governments have wanted Gaddafi dead for a long time (despite the nuclear disarmament) so when he slips up they are going to hunt him down. Same with Saddam. And these places are inevitably more profitable for them to intervene in than say Zimbabwe.

I think they were primarily from Northern Ireland and they are fighting for the reunification of Ireland.

the RIRA and CIRA have nowhere near the support the PIRA had, even in their heartlands in the catholic estates of belfast and derry. we are closer to reclaiming all 32 counties than anytime in the last century, and we got there through political means. The dark days are over.

quick history lesson, cos some of u seem a little confused:

IRA: originally the resistance force that fought the british during the irish war of independence. The war ended with a treaty which meant that the majority of the irish counties would be ruled by the irish and the remainder in northern ireland would remain under british control. Some IRA members were against the treaty and others supported it. This was the beginning of the 'troubles' in northern ireland. The members against the treaty continued to call themselves the IRA and began to become the terrorist organization as we think of them today, attacking civilian as well as military targets in northern ireland and the british mainland

PIRA: came about after another split. the PIRA was started to protect the catholic republican communities in northern ireland from loyalist paramilitary groups, as well as continuing the ultimate goal of driving the british out by force.

CIRA & RIRA: two more split offs which came about when the PIRA began to decommission and seek peaceful resolution. Basically guys that only know violence and are so embroiled in the grudge they cannot see the bigger picture.

both republican and loyalist paramilitary groups maintain a tenuous presence in their communities in a kind of vigilante capacity but their support is dwindling.

that said the remnants of irish republican terrorism are still a greater threat to the uk than 'al-qaeda' lol
