makes me laugh when people say that United are to Blame for the FA cup "losing value" when it was the FA's advice that led us to go over and play in Brazil that year

FA Cup to be sponsored by Budweiser beer

US beer company Budweiser has been named as the first US sponsor of English football's FA Cup, in a three-year deal.

The amount of money paid by the firm, owned by St Louis-based Anheuser-Busch, has not been disclosed.

Budweiser has been a sponsor of the football World Cup for 25 years and also backs US motorsport.

The FA Cup had been sponsored by energy giant E.On for five years, from 2006 to 2011.

The competition will now be known as the FA Cup with Budweiser.

"We are extremely pleased to have secured an iconic brand such as Budweiser to be the lead partner of the FA Cup," said FA General Secretary Alex Horne.

The cup, currently held by Manchester City after they beat Stoke City in May's final, is the world's oldest domestic competition.

It mean's England's two domestic cups are now sponsored by beer brands, with Carling the title sponsor of the League Cup.

I have no idea how this is comparable to the holders not defending their trophy?

I still say the Carling premiership, just sounds right.

well take it up with David Davies or whoever was in charge of the FA at that time,

it was his idea for United to take up the opportunity to go over to Brazil, as they thought it would give England a better chance of hosting the 2006 world cup,

Remember United offered to play in both competitions

Take what up with who?

I didn't say I had a problem with it I'm just saying I don't see how the two aren't comparable.

Is it because it's a US brand?

No, the point I'm making is the FA cup has been denograted for years long before United "opted out"

From time they played the final the same day as regular matches that kinda shows you where the FA cup is now.

Back in the day it was an wake up early thing see the teams songs wTch BBC all day then the final

It was because the champions league was at Wembley the same weekend.

Kompressor I don't understand what you're getting at, how is the FA Cup being denigrated?

The FA cup is always spoken of as a sacred and traditional competition,

yet like everything else, its been whored off to the highest bidder for how long now.
