A British schoolboy has been offered a trial with Barcelona after joining in a kickabout near Camp Nou while on holiday in city.

Seven-year-old Kai Fifield from Northampton was spotted by scouts as he played with some local youngsters close to the home of the European champions.

Fifield’s father, Delaney, said: “We didn’t know who the lads were representing but Kai managed to get a game and held his own in a good standard. The game finished and I asked the boys who they played for.

“I was shocked when they said ‘Barcelona’. As we were going a coach came up and said the last trial of the season for the September intake was the next day and could we come.

“I explained we were leaving tomorrow but they were persistent. So we cancelled the flights and I took him back.”

With a lot of football fans becoming more aware of the way football is coached and played around the world do you think it's only a matter of time before we see more stories like this?

we need to improve and educate OUR coaches better and develop footballers as opposed to athletes and given time we'll come good

whether that happens or not is a different story

Creating our own replica versions of Spanish/Brazilian style football schools and kids joining foreign academies are two different things.

It's been said for a long time that more players need to go abroad, going at an early age will surely be beneficial for a players game.

His dad is a football coach who's brought him up watching Barcelona, he supports Barcelona and was over there watching the last game of the season as a birthday present.

Watching them play football is going to form the basis of how he thinks football should be played hence why he was able to stand out amongst the Barca youths.

England are f*cked for the next 30+ years imo. As thats how long its going to take the next generation of english coaches and managers to come through in MASS WAVES.

The coaches and managers NOW and the players who will become coaches and managers are and will be stuck in their ways. Maybe a few will try and play differently but the rest won't. Infact the unborn generation are the ones who will probably get the chance to be a nation of genuine ballers. At the moment the mentality is to tell skillful players to tone it down, tell creative players too keep it simple, tell players under 6ft that their too small/lightweight to play the game, tell a man " if in doubt kick it out"

fans will still applaud the meat head who puts in a challenge and puts it down field and criticise the player who loses it trying to play from the back.

England right now is a very f*cked nation in terms of football, the premierleague doesn't know how lucky these influx of foreigners are to them. lol @ at mainly enlish/brtish based PL

players like Wilshere do exist in this country, they just need to be cultivated better - its not a matter of taking a group of 10 years to watch Bara

over the years we've lost them in the pursuit of kick and rush football, developing athletes as opposed to footballers and wanting immediate results

if we can learn from our mistakes and take on what these others have done well we'll do alright in the long run

After Euro 2000 they wanted to copy the french model eg Clairefontaine

Which they sort of had with Lilleshall but they tried to turn it full circle with Burton project.

Then after Euro 2008 they wanted to copy the Spanish model eg encouraging two touch/small sided games etc etc

England don't need to do all this they have had these type of players but have always under used them the likes of Le Tisser,McManaman,Scholes,Joe Cole

Joe Cole is the biggest shame I remember speaking to Tony Carr in 2007 I asked what happened to the old Joe Cole well he said he basically had to change his game or risk getting his head kicked off so thought "oh really"? The likes of CR7,Dinho,Quaresma never had to change their game that much.

You think England are in trouble? Portugal are f*ck*ng bits none of the Big 3 are buying portuguese players or even developing them nomore

As for Sporting Lisbon's football factory that got locked off as soon as Moutinho/Nani switched the lights off.

As for english youngsters going aboard its a very good thing look how advance Hargreaves was tactically/technically compared to most players in the national team.

But it could go both ways who remembers Sonny Pike? The kid who scored 300 goals in three seasons playing sunday youth leagues he joined Ajax and had a breakdown changed his name five times.
