Antonio Cassano has been very ill for several days and has suffered an ischemic stroke http://www.ansa.it/web/notizie/rubriche/english/2011/10/31/visualizza_new.html_645608055.html

Which could very well be his football career done if he is able to recover

Gattuso has gone / is going blind in one eye, so his career is pretty much done

And Zlatan Ibrahimovic is having a recurrance respitory problems, so who knows what will happen there

Ischemic Stroke

About 10% of people who have an ischemic stroke recover almost all normal function, and about 25% recover most of it. About 40% of people have moderate to severe impairments requiring special care, and about 10% require care in a nursing home or other long-term care facility. Some people are physically and mentally devastated and unable to move, speak, or eat normally. About 20% of people who have a stroke die in the hospital. The proportion is higher among older people. About 25% of people who recover from a stroke have another stroke within 5 years. Subsequent strokes impair function further.

that is fucked

Never even knew that about Gattuso :(

Gattuso collided with Nesta in one of the early Serie A games.

Lost all his vision in one eye

He colided with Nesta because of his vision problem, he's due to have another operation but...doesn't look good.

Cassona suffered the stroke after Roma - Milan, and Ibra could not breathe after Roma - Milan.

Many people think these could be the side-effects of doping at Milan

Neurologist Maria Grazia Piscaglia has revealed that AC Milan's Antonio Cassano should be able to make a full recovery even if he indeed suffered an ischemic stroke.

The Italy international is currently hospitalized after falling ill during the club's return to Milan following the weekend victory at Roma in Serie A.

News agency Ansa claimed on Monday the striker had suffered a stroke, a report which was not confirmed in a statement issued by Milan later in the evening.

The striker will undergo further tests in the coming days to learn exactly what happened to him, and Maria Grazia Piscaglia, councilor of the Italian Society of Neurology, stated that the 29-year-old could still be able to lead a normal life.

"A complete recovery is possible, but Cassano will have to adopt a healthy lifestyle, without stress," she told Goal.com.

"I have to be optimistic about Cassano's case. The situation should not be dramatized. I rule out neurological damage to the patient, since he talks and walks normally."

Italy striker Antonio Cassano to undergo minor heart surgery

• Cassano to have operation after being taken ill on plane

• Milan expect him to return to action within six months

The Italy striker Antonio Cassano is to undergo minor heart surgery after being taken ill on the club's flight home from their 3-2 win over Roma.

Cassano has been receiving treatment since Saturday when he suffered what the club described as a brain problem. He was reportedly joking with team-mates on the plane before suddenly developing difficulties with his vision, speech and movement.

Milan said in a statement that Cassano will undergo the heart procedure some time in the next few days after being diagnosed with a cardiac anomaly which impaired blood flow to his brain.

His recovery time will be better determined after the surgery, but the Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani said: "Presumably within four, five or six months Cassano should be cleared to play. He has a minor heart problem that caused this minor discomfort and over the next few days he will undergo surgery to close the opening."

Cassano's condition leaves Italy without their two starting forwards as they prepare for next year's European Championship finals, with Giuseppe Rossi out following knee surgery.

A steady stream of current and former team-mates have been visiting Cassano in hospital, and Diego Maradona wrote a letter of support that was published in Corriere dello Sport on Wednesday.

"I know about the thoughts, worries and torments that are going through your mind. I know that feeling of confusion and, why not, even solitude, that makes everything suddenly look black," Maradona wrote.

"I know well, and that's why I feel close to you and Rino Gattuso, who is also experiencing a sad period."

Cassano's hospitalisation came less than a week after the Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso announced the extent of a nerve problem affecting his left eye, which could keep him out for months, or the rest of the season.

He's got a case of Patent Foramen Ovale, that's a surprisingly common condition (1 in 5 adults has it), in which the little tunnel that connects the atria of a fetus' heart doesn't close properly in the weeks following the birth.

Cassano has been quite unlucky as just 1% of the people affected ends up having a stroke or other consequences from it.

But he's been very lucky at the same time as the blood clot that traversed the tunnel and traveled to clog his brain's artery was very small, so that the stroke didn't cause any permanent effect.

Treatment will be simple, he'll have his hole patched before the end of the week via a non surgical catheter-based procedure, he could be at home by monday and he'll be able to do whatever he likes within a month or even less.

Getting greenlighted do play professional sports will be another story anyway, he'll have to wait 4-6 months before having a chance to pass CONI's medicals, and italian sports medics are particularly severe with heart conditions (think Fadiga who couldn't pass the exam for Inter in 2003 but played for years in England and Belgium after that).

To elaborate

------------

AC Milan forward Antonio Cassano will undergo neurological tests in order to diagnose the mystery illness that left him hospitalized following Saturday's 3-2 win over Roma.

Cassano, 29, came on for the final 16 minutes at the Stadio Olimpico but then fell ill on the way back to Milan. The Italy international wanted to return home but was convinced to go to hospital by the club's chief doctor Rodolfo Tavana.

The former Real Madrid forward reportedly had difficulty speaking and moving and after an initial series of tests proved inconclusive Cassano has been transferred to the neurological department of the hospital where he will undergo tests on his heart and brain.

A club statement read: "Antonio Cassano felt unwell on Saturday evening's flight back from Rome. The player is undergoing tests at the Policlinico in Milan."

Cassano's wife and mother arrived at the hospital on Monday morning along with Dr Tavana, who said: "The boy was not well, we're investigating. He won't be travelling to Minsk and will be out of action for several days."

Milan are due to fly out to Minsk on Monday afternoon to prepare for their Champions League match against BATE Borisov on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, defender Philippe Mexes is to have an operation on his left hand which is likely to rule him out of France's international friendlies against the United States and Belgium later this month.

The 29-year-old injured his hand in training on Thursday, forcing him out of Saturday's victory at Roma.

He will go under the knife on Monday and is expected to miss the next two weeks, making it highly unlikely he will be named in Les Bleus' squad for the matches with the States on November 11 and Belgium four days later.

Dr Tavana said: "It's a simple procedure to stabilise a fracture in his left hand. Two small screws will be inserted and then he will have to protect the hand. Without this operation, the player would have had to be in plaster for 45 days."
