Porchy "England ain't shit to Europe"

Recommended Posts

Regarding our disagreement about your stance I'd like to lift some quotes to show why I disagree.

European Cup winners from 1977.

77 - Liverpool

78 - Liverpool

79 - Nottingham Forest

80 - Nottingham Forest

81 - Liverpool

82 - Aston Villa

83 - Hamburg

84 - Liverpool

So in 8 years, 7 of the winners came from England.

No country has EVER produced more European Cup Champions in 1 era.

85 - Liverpool got to the final again, lost to Juventus but the match is not generally taken seriously as it was forced to be played after the Heysel disaster happened an hour before the game where 39 fans died and 600 were injured.

After the Heysel disaster English teams were banned from Europe for what came to be 5 years.

5 years for ALL English sides.

In total, 21 different English teams missed out on playing in Europe because of the ban -- Liverpool, Everton, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Chelsea, Southampton, Norwich City, West Ham United, Sheffield Wednesday, Oxford United, Coventry City, Wimbledon, Queens Park Rangers, Luton Town, Derby County, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, Manchester City, Blackburn Rovers and Leeds United.

After the ban ended in 1990.

In the period 1991–1996, no champions of England made the final group stages of the revised European Cup

It's clear the unfair ban had an affect on English teams in Europe.

You'd also like to know that coincidentally the 3 foreigner rule was also active from 1991-1996.

British teams have suffered this restriction more than others because England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are regarded as separate countries by Uefa.

So by hook or by crook for 11 years the previously dominant English football was sabotaged in Europe.

The rule was only scrapped because UEFA were threatened by the EU that the competitions would be made illegal.

Arguably the most seriously disadvantaged team were Liverpool's cross-city rivals Everton, who had just won the League, narrowly missed out on a League and Cup double, and had, two weeks earlier won the European Cup Winners Cup in Rotterdam
The Everton team, hailed as the best in Europe, quickly broke up as star players and manager went abroad for European football, and has arguably never really recovered from the loss of income and prestige.

CL quarter finalists year by year:

2010/2011 - 3 english teams - more than any other country ( United, Chelsea, Tottenham )

2009/2010 - 2 english teams - joint top, equal to France ( Arsenal, United )

2008/2009 - 4 english teams - more than any other country, every english team made quarters. ( United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal ). 3/4 also made semis

2007/2008 - as above, add an all english final ( United Chelsea )

snm

England > any other country's clubs repped at CL level

lol @ no one remembers the rest of the teams

so You're gonna watch this whole prem league season, and only remember the team that win, and the day they win it right?

no one remembers germany from last world cup no?

providing 3/4 of the last 8, the prem league's contribution to the tournament is massive

all 4 english teams are being looked at as contenders. can any other country boast more than 2 serious contenders this year?

That German team isn't one of the best not to ever win the World Cup so I doubt in a few years time anyone will remember them.

Contenders? More like also rans out of the four only Manchester United can win it

Taking UCL for Europa League it's not that open

Winners will come from Barca/Real/Bayern/Man Utd

lol @ me debating with a "they won the match, they're the best team in the world, fuck everyone else" football fan

regardless of title winners ( Your figures are 1, 2, 3 and 4, not exactly like 1 country is running away with it, light years ahead of the rest anyway ), everyone who knows anything about football will say English teams make the most contribution to the UCL every year

3/4 semi finalists. go head. show me the last time a country other than England produced it.

Winning>>Taking part

The point of this debate was English teams and players are very good at home but their counterparts on the continent are superior which Toney and many others refuse to acknowledge.

bro. that's all before the year 2000. the fuck's that got to do with now?

The point is Porchy's "England isn't Europe" opinion has no legs because English teams dominated Europe prior to being targeted and being treated unjustly.

The English game is just about recovering over the last 5/6 years as you pointed out.
