Young Players Wages In The Modern Game?

Not entirely sure how to explain this without causing confusing. Recently on this and many other forms and day to day life have heard a vast amount of people talking about youth players wages since this whole Ravel and Pogba saga cropped up.

10 years ago world class players were on on what about 70/80k? Don't have the stats at hand but IIRC the average best players at clubs would be earning around that amount, and the youth players would be on around 1-5k depending on there potential and status.

Now we are in a time where top players are obtaining around 150-250k and average players have gone from around 20-30k up to around the 50-60k mark if you get my drift.

So surely youth players deserve to get a proportional raise. So offering around 12k-18 to the high end youth players is surely right if the best paid players are on 200k a week?

Hope its clear enough and if anyone has any stats from now and before on wages please drop them here and add your thoughts.

It's your club mate. Arsenal youngers get PAID.

In all seriousness, I think its about your clubs/managers philosophy...

For example Wenger wants the last things on his players minds to be money, so we over reward and spoil.

Where as it seeems to me at least that United seem to try and instill hunger in their youngers and make them men who then get rewarded or shown the door.

In theory yes proportional rises would seen to make sense,

However in football for the large part the funds for players wages come from the people walking through the turnstiles,

So if your advocating that football should move in this way and continue this ridiculous out of control downward spiral that is systematically pricing out the traditional and normal fan out of going to games, and in turn helping the worsening of atmospheres in stadiums across the country, then fair enough,

Every year more and more season tickets get left un-sold at Old Teafford,

Somewhere that in our lifetimes has never had problems shifting them,

Football needs to find itself, it's inevitable that a wall us going to be hit sooner or later,

In 2000 Roy Keane was due a contract renewal, he wanted 55k a week, for the richest club in the world this should've been no problem, however they were compelled to write to their season ticket holders explaining that due to our captains demands prices were going up, and in a round about way, said that this is how things were going to be from now on. Un coincidentally this was my Uncle's last season with a season ticket, he wasn't the only one.

In short the club can only give out what they take in, so if your willing to give significantly more in then by all means champion the increase in wage for the young players,

However don't champion it if then in 2 years or so your going to be complaining because a game against West Brom us £65

On a sidenote, something to think about,

Take Liverpool and Manchester United, the two biggest clubs in the country,

Baring in mind the Roy Keane example I gave in my last post, think United had a capacity if 55.000 at that time, Liverpool had 45.000

So already we were pulling in more punters our global earnings were higher, and we were European and domestic champions,

Yet ticket prices were going up,

Now since then Old Trafford has seen 4 developments which have increased the capacity to 75.000 yet Liverpool are still at 45.000.

How do you think Liverpool have been able to keep up (largely) in terms of wages?

Spurs are another good example,

Unless your able to up

The capacity of your stadium or move to a larger one, your fans will fit the bill, and then even then they still will.

Moral of the story, be careful what you wish for,

Personally I'd prefer for football to be run in a mire realistic way and a way the represents the social climate and also the progression of said club, Arsenal's rise last season was lunacy,

If you consider the high profile departures, their falling league position, and not to mention the little matter if a reccesion.

In short it's not clubs who are out of order and them being stingy isnt an issue, the issue is Wages are out if control. In 10 years time if things continue on the same track, it'll be I treating how clubs will choose to maintain it all, and how many normal people will be able to afford to go an watch what was supposed to ve the "normal mans game"

Something's got to give.

If youth players are gonna be in 18k A WEEK now then I'm not even gonna try work out what their wedge will be like in 10 years.

Especially considering the likelihood of clubs like Arsenal and Unired being able to increase un size isn't great.

If wages rise significantly every 3 to 4 years, then ticket prices will have to raise very significantly every 3 to 4 years. And it's already at a mad amount.

This will keep escalating to the point someone breaks. The question is who will break.

Sadly I see a point in the not too distant future where most people won't be able to afford the skysports package to watch games. Let alone watch them live.

Lol, for a large number of households, we're there already,

It needs a overhaul now, but no ones going to be big an brave enough to do it.

If people are saying that a player who has made literally a couple appearances for the senior side, SHOULD be on around 15k a week, then we're lost. And we're making a rod for our own backs. Coz when that man is first name on the team sheet and England regular, it's f*cked!!

Take Ashley Young's reported wages as an example. Madness that with Valencia and Nani hitting form he could find himself a bench player, Berbatov similarly, whole things stupid.

No it's a new era, just like Arsenal fans get annoyed by the club reluctancy to smash the 20m/100k ceiling on a player.

Some clubs have to remember that there are young players with very little proven getting paid a LOT of money, ana a lot basically based on potential.

So if your club manager says a young talent is the best prospect to come out of the club since Paul Scholes, know thats going to come at a cost...

Altho I'm not sure Ferguson did say about Scholes and Morrison.... but he did say that three players (Cleverley, Morrison, Pogba) where good enough to pursue, rather than invest in a 35m, 200k a week, Wesley Sneijder... Knowing that the club is gonna have to renew terms with all three within the next year, it's not the smartest thing to do, as the agent will simply say "yeah Fergie, thanks for that, whats 200k divided by 3?"

Guest whowantswhat

pisses me off at Arsenal. Apparently Fran merida was getting 10k a week and he made 1 Premier league start. The likes of Denilson and Bendtner are on 50k whilst established international stars like Arshavin and RVP are on 30k more. I agree youngsters should be made to feel hungry. Ravel Morrison turning down a united contract speaks volumes about the state of young modern day footballers.

agents play a greater role these days as we all know, but more so with younger players. With transfer prices for the worlds elite players going crazy high with only a select few clubs able to compete at the top end, there is a more widespread focus on clubs obtaining the top youngsters the agents know this and latch on to them like parasites making all type of demands. Some are good tho just seem few nd far between

As already said it depends on philosophy of the club/manager wether these demands are met tho. Arsenal to an extent have to compete at the top end for obtaining/keeping kids cos thats now key to our success, the board obviously knw this and with the potential profit to be made from sale down the line pay above the going rate in wages for kids. But as said the problem is the hunger issue, wages have increased in the game and you can say yh the yuts should get a proportional increase but were now seeing players not reach nowhere near there potential cos if at 17/18 you reward players with a contract that gives them a premiership players lifestyle when they havent even played first team football depending on the individual nd there circumstances, you can get situations where by 23/24 and another improved contract there progress slows when they should be peaking due to motivation.

Not many know the full morrison/man utd story, but lookinjg from the outside given what the club have done for him in his previous cases he was ill advised if he tried to push for more wages, especially with Ferguson in charge who is old skool/ socialist, nd built his success from young players in a different era tht we wont see again in the likes of giggs scholes nevilles who wouldnt of had many contract disputes in there infancy. Ferguson has gone on record stating the obvious talent of morrison and pogba, and despite the fact they are probably 2 of the best prospects around he has stuck to his principals, and not really given them a sniff in terms of 1st team football cos they were in contract dispute. Could be a big loss for the mancs down the line but personally i dont think you can reward someone like morrison despite his talent, with a grand contract cos it sends out all the wrong signals

Ferguson got spy's to watch wes brown because it was beloved he was linked with gangsters. Would not be surprise if he done the same spying stuff with ravel and did not like the feedback he got.

I see sanchez watts in his range rover must be a decent contract. She he is at loan at crawley
