Marketing Question

I am preparing something extra-curricular about marketing methods employed by companies where they attempt to isolate their competitors product, by restricting compatibility

For example Apple's products being occasionally wack on a Microsoft OS in order to convert the masses to Macs/Macbooks

Is there a specific term for this?

I know one could simply say prod. diff. but I'm sure this has been explored as an individual concept much like Thorstein Veblen's theory of conspicuous consumption.

duno bout any specific term for that but it could be argued as bein a form of Porter's differentiation focus strategy?

the particular niche market in question would be Microsoft customers

hadn't come accross this conspic consumption before

"Conspicuous consumption is spending on goods and services acquired mainly for the purpose of displaying income or wealth"

gona use that 1 on the lads, "conspicuous c*nt" is now a thing
