Owen ''I Would've Been England's GOAT Striker''

His fitness record has been a recurring topic of discussion over the past few years and Owen has identified an injury he suffered as a 19-year-old as the pivotal moment in his career, saying he would undoubtedly have become England's all-time leading scorer if he had stayed fit.

The turning point Owen is recalling came at Elland Road in 1999 when he fell to the turf whilst playing for Liverpoolspacer.gif with a badly damaged hamstring, something the striker says he has had to compensate for ever since.

'You've got three hamstrings and one was just totally ruptured," he said.

"It should be right the way down but one bit starts there, attaches there and the rest of it attaches there. I've got no hamstring in the middle. I'm basically running on two hamstrings on my right leg and three on the other.

"That injury has probably changed my whole career. I've been compromised from the age of 19.

"Every specialist says the same thing. It goes from one and then you compensate and it goes to the other one, and then to the groin, and then a double hernia and then on to this (his current thigh injury).

"If I'd still been in one piece from the World Cupspacer.gif and gone through my career, what type of player would I have been? No doubt about it, if I hadn't had as many injuries I would have been the all-time leading scorer for England."

whatever man, guy was way overrated anyway

fair enough the hamstring injuries take a bit away from your pace, thats understandable, but his GENERAL play is fucking shocking mate, he makes Hernandez look like Zidane outside the box at times

oh and he's STEALING a living from United, we should have never signed, such a waste of time and money. what good is he as an influence on the young lads when he's always injured and chatting shit on twitter smh

Theo Walcott needs take a lesson from this guy and drastically improve his general play, in this day and age you just can't rely on pace alone to get far in the game, you need to offer more

Was watching a match on ESPN classic from just after World cup 98.

Reminded me of how terrified people were of him.

He was quality, in the box he's still worth his weight in goals but injuries have ended him.

Owen redesigned the role of a striker.

Don't think we'd ever seen someone with that much pace and movement with the technique in his finish reminiscent of a central midfield playmaker.

Henry was molded around Owen#s game.

Liverpool vs Sheffield Weds about 10 years ago...

Owen scores 4.

Ron Atkinson after the game

"I knew he was good, but not THAT good"
