Louis Theroux - Extreme Love

DURATION: 1 HOUR

In his upcoming documentary "Extreme Love: Autism", Louis meets 20-year-old Brian who is severely autistic and his behaviour – setting fire to the house and attacking his mother – has led to the difficult decision of placing him in residential care. Louis also meets Brian's mother, whose love for her son has been tested to its limits.

Here's a clip from when Louis looks after Brian while his mother pops out. Brian can be very sociable, but here he has other things on his mind...

You may have seen this clip during Louis' interview on The One Show last night, but here's an extended version...

He also has one that was meant to be shown a couple of weeks ago on the porn industry but thats been pushed back until a later date.

Louis' new documentary about the porn industry in LA will be broadcast, but the schedule has changed and it won't be until a bit later this year.

As one of the big retirement destinations for middle class Americans, Phoenix Arizona has also become a capital of dementia care. Louis visits the city in order to spend time in state-of-the-art care home Beatitudes and with home-based carers, whose love is tested by a condition that steadily erodes the personality and character of their partners.

At Beatitudes Louis meets Gary, a 69-year-old patient who thinks he is serving in the military and that it is his job to check the state of everyone’s teeth. Louis submits to a dental check-up, is introduced to two of Gary’s new resident girlfriends and spends time with Gary’s wife of 20 years, Carla – a woman whom Gary robustly denies ever having married.

In a suburban Phoenix bungalow Louis agrees to become carer-for-a-day to Nancy, a formerNew York model with a personality to match. He finds a woman who can no longer remember her way through a complete sentence, but also a husband who finds much to love in the glimpses of personality that still sparkle through the dementia.

They say everyone is on the spectrum I notice a lot of people that have autistic characteristics.

yeah i've heard this before, my uncle works with em

i kno bare people that are blatantly slightly autistic

jus can't see anythin from any other view but their own

can't help but think that, like most syndromes and diseases overly common in the western world, its do with unnatural chemicals in our food

U should try somehow to get her 2 draw something

Most autistic people just really hate any form of change they love a routine

The whole food thing is bullshit tbh

Its the ones that have no speech and then all of a sudden start talking that fascinate me

One woman started talking in her late 20's and can remember what it was like when she couldn't talk but can't explain y she didn't.

I look after a boy that is mute and i keep having dreams with him talking in them...proper freaks me lol

is spent time in a community autism clinic

hardest thing tryin not to laugh at some of these little mongs

half the challenge is appearin professional

i think maybe there should be some research into beatin the autism out of em

doubt there are many autistic people in somalia

and i dnt know any autistic afghans

Beating the parents would probably help more.

Blaming autism when it's just shitty parenting.

There's a lot of theories but that all they are tbh

I like to compare autism to sight

Some people have perfect 20/20 vision

some only need reading glasses

some need glasses 24/7

some are partially blind

And some are just straight blind

Etc

I'm sure everyone on this forum fits somewhere along that list same with the autistic spectrum

But obviously someone that wears reading glasses does not have the same needs as someone that is completely blind.

I have seen autistic children from nearly every race so i don't think it has anything 2 do with it.

:/ I work with a lovely Afghan girl that has autism and adhd

Would love to see u tell the Somali man that has to bring in his son everyday in a harness by cab that they don't have autism Somalia....the kid spits at everyone and likes to hand out slaps like they are going out of fashion broke his dads nose a month ago

Not gonna lie there are times when I do just burst out laughing but the weirdest bit is when a parent needs u 2 tell there child what 2 do because they won't listen to them

Oh and explaining masturbation to them is pretty mental

If there parents give permission the are allowed 'private time' basically get 2 knock one out in a private room

Had a Muslim boy can't remember what country he was from but his parents didn't want him masturbating or us explaining what an erection was to him so the poor kid gets a hard on and thinks god knows what but judging by his reaction (smashing his head against the door and screaming) he doesn't enjoy it very much.
