Getting max use out of a pc

Just copped 4gb of ram from mr memory as my dusty 2010 dell vostro was struggling with basic stuff like youtube and having nuff tabs open

installed it and checked my system settings and its telling me only 2.96 of the 4gb is usable

is there anything i can do to make all of it usable? seems silly as you cant install 3gb of ram, anyone got solutions?

32bit windows operating systems can only use 3GB (or is it 4?)

to use more youll need a 64bit OS

YH 32 bit is limited to 4gb

I'm capped at 4 as well

Go & download the free CCleaner & run it. I'm sure you'll find ALOT of useless sh*t clogging up your system.

The graphics card is sharing some of your RAM that's why

I bought my PC in 2010 for the same purposes, FL with no stalling on my VST's, cubase rewire etc

didnt even pay much for it. Intel Dual CPU @ 2.40GHz, 2.93 GB of RAM

still runs everything i need smoothly, simultaneously

reformat & see if it does what you want how you want imo & take it from there

2.96 probably rounds to 3. Think 3 is max for 32 bit systems. Windows 7 is you!

yeah u need to install a 64bit OP system like somone already said. Download windows 7 from warez-bb? easy to install.

guess im using the 32 bit vrsion though, will back up my files and reformat to 64 bit?

I also wonder (somebody confirm) if the vast majority of programs being written for 32 bit will even accomodate the new ram

You should be able to get 3.5 GB, so your just about 500 MB off.
