FUCK KONAMI!!!!!!!!!

Metal Gear designer Hideo Kojima was apparently not allowed to attend tonight’s Game Awards, per an announcement by host Geoff Keighley. A lawyer for Konami reportedly barred Kojima from attending, nor accept his awards. The Phantom Pain’s Kiefer Sutherland accepted one of Metal Gear’s awards on his behalf. When the news was revealed, the audience boo’d in protest.

“As you noticed,” said Keighley. “Hideo Kojima is not here with us tonight and I want to tell you a little about that. Mr. Kojima had every intention of being with us tonight, but unfortunately he was informed by a lawyer representing Konami just recently that he would not be allowed to travel to tonight’s awards ceremony to accept any awards. [crowd boos] He’s still under an employment contract. And it’s disappointing and it’s inconceivable to me that an artist like Hideo would not be allowed to come here and celebrate with his peers and his fellow teammates.”

Previous reports suggested Kojima had a non-compete through December, which may explain why Kojima was unable to show up to The Game Awards.

As Brian Ashcraft wrote about last night, a PR person at Konami accepted an award for The Phantom Pain at Sony’s PlayStation Awards in Japan last night.

Konami has not responded to my request for comment.

Sony has revealed more details about Hideo Kojima's first game at his new independent studio, confirming that the title is also scheduled to launch on PC following its release on PS4.

While Sony is "not disclosing details" on how long the game's PS4 exclusivity will last, it says that the game "is planned to become available on PC (after PS4)", and that it will be a "console exclusive", meaning it won't ever arrive on Xbox One.

The game won't be linked to Metal Gear Solid or the cancelled Silent Hills, either, Sony says, instead being "something completely new". The game will be published by Sony Computer Entertainment who will "provide support [to the game's development] as necessary".

It won't confirm, however, who owns the copyright to the game, simply stating that it will "announce further details when ready".

"Kojima is an extremely creative and passionate game designer who has made countless contributions to PlayStation and the gaming industry," Sony Computer Entertainment said in a Q&A posted by PlayStation community manager Pad Poet.

"By having Kojima develop his first independent title to PS4, we believe that we can deliver completely new gaming experiences made possibly only by Kojima, to gaming fans worldwide. We are not disclosing further details on how this agreement was realized."

Kojima announced Kojima Productions earlier today following his exit from Konami.

Konami, meanwhile, has yet to publicly acknowledge his departure.

Sony adds that "Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd. will remain one of SCE's most important publishers, and our relationship with them will not change."
