Dunno what to say tbh, apparently he's being coached by McGuigan

"It is likely to be granted next week," Smith told Telegraph Sport. "The reports from our Area Council representatives indicate that Mr Flintoff is fit, in shape, and has been well-schooled by Barry McGuigan and his son Shane. But I think it is fair to say we are not expecting Freddie Flintoff to be the next Sugar Ray Leonard."

Flintoff, the former English cricket captain, who is 34, has revealed a changed physique and is in shape after months in the gym, making the switch to professional boxing following his retirement from cricket after several injuries.

Flintoff has been in camp for 10 weeks under the supervision of former world champion Barry McGuigan and his son Shane, with Board Secretary Smith revealing to Telegraph Sport that the athlete has been monitored on his progress throughout the process.

Flintoff is expected to make his professional heavyweight debut on November 30, with the MEN Arena, Manchester, having been mentioned as one possible venue.

A week earlier Flintoff's fellow Lancastrian Ricky Hatton returns to the venue for his comeback after 42 months of self-imposed exile from the ring.

"The licence will be granted pending the medicals being cleared. It has many parts - physical, blood test, scans, eye test, and they all come in from different places, and are all sent in to us independently. We are awaiting the last of those today [Friday] or Monday and we put it all together and it will be put to the Board's medical panel next week.

"I can't see there being a problem, to be honest. It is not unusual. Curtis Woodhouse, the former footballer, joined the boxing ranks a couple of years ago, though he was a bit younger, and in America several former NFL players have switched from the sport to take up boxing."

One such figure is Seth Mitchell, 30, a linebacker with Michigan State University who took up boxing and joined the professional ranks in 2008. In four years he is unbeaten in 26 fights. Now highly ranked Mitchell is two to three victories away from fighting for the World Boxing Council heavyweight title against Vitali Klitschko.

"There seems to be a fascination with boxing from athletes in other sports, and they like to have a go. Now Mr Flintoff wants to have a go," said Smith, adding that Flintoff's progress and ability has been observed. "He has been seen at the gym a few times. We always watch and observe people who are applying for a licence with little amateur experience.

"Our area council representatives have seen him in the gym, there are reports that he has been in there a long time, and that he is serious about this in every way, and how he is treating it.

"Every boxer who passes the test gets a 12 month licence, and Mr Flintoff has told us that he is not doing this to have one fight - and that he wants to try it for a while. That said, he might not like getting hit on the nose, and may change his mind once he has been in the ring."

Can't remember who it was on Sky Sports News saying that as long as he doesn't come in just to make some dough and make a mockery of the sport then fair enough.

And looking at that picture it look's like he's taking it seriously.

Can't be any worse than a Fraudley fight??

nah real talk though i regard McGuigan as one of the more sensible members of the British Boxing community, i dnt think he would get involved with someone who is completely useless
