DVD and video game rental chain Blockbuster UK has collapsed into administration, putting more than 4,000 jobs at risk.

The entertainment retailer becomes the third major High Street casualty of 2013 after falling demand and online price wars saw photography retailer Jessops go bust last week, followed closely by entertainment stalwart HMV on Tuesday.

Their demise in such a short space of time is a major body blow to the High Street which is already reeling from the administration of Blacks, La Senza, Clinton Cards, JJB Sports, Habitat and Comet, among others, last year.

rah i didnt even know clinton cards went bust....who are their rivals tho?

pmsl @ the netflix banner on this page.. The real.

Alot of these companies just lacked a good forecast of the future imo.

But still worrying times regardless.

On sky news they said they are 140+ companies (Big names/Small names) who are on high risk to likely go into administration.

Mad

The fact that they've managed to stay in business for so long in this day and age is outstanding.

With the likes of Netflix, Lovefilm and of course piracy, I don't know a single person who would consider to rent a movie or game from them.

Biggest example of obsoletion since Radio Rentals.
