my aunt is with Bupa which saved her grands when she had to have her hip replaced. I dont know how much she pays for cover but i know that there are levels as she was saying what she is covered for in terms of treatment and the materials they use to replace the bone etc.

the hospital that she stayed in was like a hotel there were only 4 suits on each ward and ithink only 3 floors in total so it was very intimate for family during recovery.

the doctor still effed it up tho so all that money didnt really protect her from human error.

Ok...I detailed this a bit on here last year

From the age of about 18 months for the next quarter of a decade I was plagued by pretty awful stomach problems, intense cramping, vomiting, that kind of fun stuff, all stemming from a bowel operation I had at 18 months old

For more than 20 years I had suffered with this.....literally maybe 2 months, I would spent 2 weeks completely bedridden in agony throwing up, even if I didn't eat, I threw up bile.....I had seen doctors throughout my life for it, and pretty much stopped about age 14, as they pretty much told me nothing could be done, went to the NHS, the repeatedly tried to tell me I had IBS or gastroenteritis, both of which I knew weren't true as the symptons didn't match what I felt

So I joined private healthcare through work (Aviva), saw a consultant, pretty sharply they had me booked in to be spitroasted by cameras to see what was going on with my stomach, also booked me in for an MRI scan, turned out I had scar tissue inside my bowel that was constricting my stomach, which pretty much had the same effect as when you squeeze the middle of a balloon, so no food at all could get through to be digested so I'd just throw up and throw up and throw up

So they booked me in for surgery like a day or two later

It was at London Bridge hospital. Shit was like a HOTEL. I had a suite overlooking the river thames, an onsuit bathroom with a shower, a nice bed, Sky with all the sports channels, and the cooking was exquisite (pure rich arabs visit the place so everything on the menu was also halal), they had steak, chicken everyhting (of course I couldn't eat all that at the time due to my stomach) but my family wolfed that shit down <_<

The surgery was a success, and as someone who has spent a fair bit of time in hospitals I can tell you it was a genuinely pleasant experience...it didn't smell or feel like a hospital, all the staff were great, I had my own room, my own tv, I was as comfortable as I could have possible been (and bare in mind, I had a fucking catheter tube going into my d*ck, and another tube going into my nose)

So I would greatly recommend private healthcare if you can afford it

Completely worth it in my case

And now I have had my first year free of a pretty debilitating problem that caused me to miss on average about 2 or 3 months of work a year, the first year of my life without vomiting  :Y:

So yeah basically

The level of expertise from doctors - much better than the NHS, you get specialised treatment for you, you aren't just another person that walks in the door

The level of comfort while in the hospital - literally was like a hotel, literally

The food was as good as any restaurant I've been to

It generally makes a horrible experience (being in hospital, having surgery) into a really bearable one, if it weren't for the actual surgery and perhaps sounding weird I'd say it was almost an enjoyable experience

Just get a quote for you / your family

Also bare in mind I signed up to the healthcare knowing I had an existing problem, so I was likely to get some use out of it

i was just about to look into this... now that i have some sort of injury i was contemplating private healthcare...

is it a lump sum you pay or a direct debit ting?

It comes out every month via direct debit, or you do it through your workplace (some companies do this, but it's mainly blue chip) it just comes out of your salary

This was my room pretty much, had it all to myself with the bathroom to the left just next to the TV, if you've ever been in an NHS hospital you will appreciate it..

Nice one cypher

Yeah my workplace offers private healthcare as well however I havent opted in for it as I am relatively healthy and cannot justify the price against what I can get through the NHS...(YET)

Deffo gonna look to get a quote for my parents and eventually when I get enough money will do it for the whole fam
