its a language thing rather than a location thing imo.

too easy for uk rappers to try imitate u.s rappers as we share the same native tounge

we look to the us first and foremost for rap.

same cant be said about the continent, its all authentic to there respective nations and is instantly unique due to the language.

ive always thought part of it is Englands too small, as an american you can hear about the projects and aks and all that and never really experiance it.

whereas everyone here lives near a council estate and will know someone who stayes bladed up etc

so the people who listen to it as popular music in america, the equvilent here, would be put off cause its all too real.

UK rap was at its most popular 4/5 years ago when there was a lot of !music being made most of them diss songs/gang songs etc... And police locked that off quick

Original uk underground rap is corny and boring to say the least...

Not forgetting countries like France are not saturated with us tracks

1. The scene is too Amercanzied.

2. The time and place when people in the UK will accept, Uk rap or Rnb music has long come and gone.

Germany are definitely more open to rap music than the uk, they're where the UK was in the 80's/90's in terms of how open they are to black forms of music, the problem is rap has lost its  mysticism.

I think the fact we speak English is a blessing and a curse, because of how linked our culture is to the U.S we look to them for validation and our scene has become too influenced by theirs to the point we've lost our own culture(at least thats what it seems like to the middle class white folk).

The reason why Grime was so popular and produced our biggest artists is because it was intrinsically british, yes it had the US influence obviously, but it wasn't a US genre, it was a genre made in east London pushed by artists using London slang, its the same reason why The Streets was so popular because they made music that the average white geezer at the time could relate to, before we have a uk rap artist who can really break through he will need to embrace his britishness and stop pandering to American culture. But then you can say its a catch 22, because there is a ceiling for rap in the UK, whereas the ceiling in the US is much higher.

I think the blacks in France though are mostly from Muslim African countries, and then you've got the arabs from Northern African countries so maybe they help push each other more.
