ive always thought part of it is Englands too small, as an american you can hear about the projects and aks and all that and never really experiance it.

 

whereas everyone here lives near a council estate and will know someone who stayes bladed up etc

Germany got way more paid rappers making rap music than the UK, so yes, infact lol at you for thinking otherwise.

Germany are definitely more open to rap music than the uk, they're where the UK was in the 80's/90's in terms of how open they are to black forms of music, the problem is rap has lost its  mysticism.

I think the fact we speak English is a blessing and a curse, because of how linked our culture is to the U.S we look to them for validation and our scene has become too influenced by theirs to the point we've lost our own culture(at least thats what it seems like to the middle class white folk).

 

The reason why Grime was so popular and produced our biggest artists is because it was intrinsically british, yes it had the US influence obviously, but it wasn't a US genre, it was a genre made in east London pushed by artists using London slang, its the same reason why The Streets was so popular because they made music that the average white geezer at the time could relate to, before we have a uk rap artist who can really break through he will need to embrace his britishness and stop pandering to American culture. But then you can say its a catch 22, because there is a ceiling for rap in the UK, whereas the ceiling in the US is much higher.
