Did Barca sell the wrong midfielder

37 posts in this topic

With Thiago hitting fine stride in munich and becoming the most important player for arguably the best team in the world alongside his central midfield partner Lahm in recent weeks.

Did Barcelona get it wrong in letting him go and keeping Cesc Fabregas ???

Tipped to take over from Xavi for nearly a decade now, Cesc has not been trusted to play in the center of midfield for barca since he has moved there..... instead currently Sergi Roberto is now being groomed for that role and Cesc was used as backup for messi in the false 9 role and also played out wide....

now under Tata he is enjoying his best run in the barcelona side dislodging Iniesta from the starting line up

however this is one of barcas worst seasons for 4/5 years and the style of football is being whistled by the catalans who do not like the direct "english" style used at times.....

So my question is

who should be the starter/1st back up to Xavi for spain in the world cup

Thiago or Cesc.... given that del bosque isnt a fool and will defo play his star man Iniesta

Barcelona didnt really sell him tho, did they... Like Cesc once, he left.

The question should be should Barc have bought Cesc when they had Thiago?

Let's not act like Thiago didn't turn out as expected at Barca

He delivered when he played though

But for all he knew Xavi was going to start 35-40 games this season, he feels ready to start week in week out

He had to make a decision

Difficult for Barcelona to just drop Xavi for him because he told them

But they know how Xavi's knees are, Thiago's integration should have been started before, it probably would have under Pep

Think Thiago just got lost in the changing of managers

100% sure he will go back one day though, they all do

I would start Xavi in the first two games, let Thiago start the 3rd and see how he does, if he steps up I would strongly consider him for the last 16

Big game wise Xavi is that guy, plus he plays with Busquets, Iniesta, Pedro, Cesc week in week out

Very difficult choice to make

Barcelona do need to evolve & Cesc needs to be a part of that.

They should really have kept both TBH.

Cesc will move to CM permanently when they sign a new CF.

Was only talking about this recently, that tata's Barca NEEDS a CF and funnily enough it's the man they loaned and then sold to Milan who's the perfect still their perfect fit imo.

Barcelona should consider moving into a true 3-4-3 which would allow them to play a true CF & Messi as a #10.

Pedro/Sanchez & Neymar/Tello/Deulofeu on the flanks. Alba if trying to be a little more defensive but want to retain width.

Xavi, Iniesta, Sergi Roberto & Cesc as the CM's.

Busquets, Song & Mascherano as the DM's or Liberos depending on how opposition sets up.

Pique & Puyol as the sweepers.

Bartra, Montoya & 1/2 new defensive signings as the wide defenders.

Been reading this book by Jed C. Davies called 'Coaching the Tiki-Taka Philosophy'.

So, so deep. Breaks it down incredibly.

Delivered? He was distinctly average in his final season at Barca

As for selling the wrong player..Cesc is better so no

Really?

What makes you say that exactly?

Be specific. Give examples, etc.

Why is Cesc better or why was he average?

Mainly because he didn't impose himself enough in games and lack of creativity

Get him back here, not sure how we'd fit him in but we would do! still the best attacking midfielder in world football.

Messi has a lot to answer for as well . Ever since pep left he has become lazy . Runs half as much. When he should be tracking back helping out the team hes walking around . fabregas shouldnt be made a scapegoat . Just look at the champions league game mid week . Messi was shite .

That guy is another fool.

Where will Cesc go?. I reckon he's not wanted anymore.

He clearly don't know what to do with him.
