Is it acceptable to pay for Sky T.V. using benefit money/JSA?

37 posts in this topic

Done this before and obviously a lotta people do. But this kinda thing will piss the tax payer off especially when there is many people working full time job's who don't even have Sky

The question is really "If you're unemployed should you be able to spend your JSA on anything perceived to be a luxury?"

The answer for me is yes.

Tories were talking about bringing in an equivalent of food stamps so your JSA would come in the form of tokens redeemable at approved retailers. Bullshit imo.

Well according to Directgov JSA is about £288 a month. A decent Sky package would set you back £60. Now minus gas/electricity, council tax and food and you would see the remaing £228 gone, so that would rule out going out, travel costs, cigarette habits etc...

I would assume people who do this also take out Wonga loans just to stay a float unless your living with mumsie.

It is acceptable in my books, if JSA is your life then so be it, if happiness is derived from Sky then good on ya'.

It's your money to spend how you want imo.

I don't think they pay for your gas and electric.

my sister was made redundant. she had never claimed jsa in her life. she called jobcentre, told them her plight and they said 'you know what heres £2,000, plus we will pay your next months rent, plus they gave her another top up of £1,500'.

I was like what the hell... 'it pays to not claim'

Is it acceptable - It depends on multiple factors. If you have kids, then NO.

Is it sensible - Absolutely not.
