what's the appeal of f1?

Seriously you're just watching cars drive around in circles at high speeds. What's the big deal? How and why does it entertain you? Not even a troop ting. Genuinely interested cos I've never seen the appeal.

Would understand such a thread more if your talking about Nascar or indie 500 where its going round an oval track hundreds of times. But even then it does appeal to minions of people (albeit dumb yanks) so who are we to argue?

I wasn't interested at all until I went to a race. I had the same pre conceptions as you

 

The thrill for me is knowing the speeds that they're racing at...the risk & the decisions they have to make, all whilst under so much physical strain

 

That + the glitz and glamour element + the adrenaline in the air make it exciting to watch

 

 

Also, the machinery and equipment they use/maintain appeals to my inner child

 

Most boys grow up with an inherent interest in cars and the mechanics of right?

 

Most boys enjoy high octane activities like go karting, quad biking etc right?

 

 

F1 is all of that on steroids for me

Prefer Moto GP but kudos to F1 for having a storyline outside just the driving itself.

Same as any sport for me, i love the narrative of a match, race, fight. How the momentum swings etc

the way every millisecond counts... and thats just the drivers. there's the engineering side as well. i personally don't like it but i can see why other do. 

 

nascar is also very under rated. its not just driving in a circle.
