Living Wage

66 posts in this topic

Just wanted to enquire of the Vipers, in this day and age, base it on your current location, what is the minimum wage required to live life comfortably. Not to excess, but the necessities, transport, food, accommodation, clothing, the general stuff.

If you ain't earning minimum £45k in London, then you're pissed (assuming you live in relevant Zones (1 or 2))

How did you arrive at £45K?

By multiplying the tangential coefficient by a pi factor of ought 5.

Depends if you're a single person

or cohabiting tbh

I recon 45k for a single person is about right London zone 1-2

Outside of that (Zones 3-6), it may even be the same, depending on where you work (travel costs etc).

Yeah, 3/4 is kind of a sweet spot if you don't mind commuting.

£45k is excessive even for London

A single guy can live comfortably on 35k in London imo

A guy living with parents can potentially live on minimum wage

You only see like 33/34 out that 45k after tax

Then u got rent let's say at 1500pcm

That's leaving you with like 1200 inc the rest of ur priority bills to deal with as a single man in zone 1-2

I wouldn't say that 45k was an excessive estimate at orrrrr

1500pcm is too much for a single wage...fuck all that.

On that, would rather rent in zone ends for ownership in a year or two.

Renting is dead.

playing the living with rents game until i can move out.

Fully understand the needing of own space and all but boy 1500 * 12 in + £1000 cashback isa

worth the wait.

London is mad these days. Dunno how/if I'm gonna move back

Unless you're making investment banking money I don't see how you can live comfortably in central London

Agreed 45 is excessive.

A flat share with mates can be fun if you're single and in a nice spot.

£800 a pop pm for rent.

Then the rest is trivial.

Parking and driving in zones 1-2 must be an absolute myth
