Has social media changed society for the better or worse

Far more credible are complaints about Twitter’s slow response to the explosion of misogynistic trolling three summers ago. This was not just Twitter’s problem: a few years back, the aforementioned Calacanis sat down opposite me in a restaurant and asked bluntly, “Why are you such as a**hole?” I blushed. He blushed. And this, he explained, was the point, because while saying what he’d said confused and unsettled me, it also cost him. “Now the hairs on the back of my neck are standing up,” he said, “because I’ve said something I feel I shouldn’t have.” Online, this human reflex is lost.

Its worse for people who don't take time to think, better for people that do.

Means people have way more sources of information that get around controlled media (ie big corp and government), but also means there's way more false sources of information.

People have less privacy but they're connected to more people.

I don't think you can clean cut say its better or worse, its all about perspective.

I'd say at the moment for me (because I don't really enjoy its entertainment benefits any more) its not at its best.

Yeah, it's likely been detrimental to society as we knew it.

People now have less communication skills as Kerser exhibited

Less manners in certain situations

Sex is easier to get so relationships have been affected

A new type of icon has emerged in the selfie era etc...

They do have a detrimental effect on behaviour and mental health. Humans are naturally social creatures that require real social interaction.

It’s doesn’t surprise me atorr about the amount of people (young especially) that suffer from social anxiety. Social media is a fake replacement for real social interaction, and the same way that porn rewires your brain negatively, too  much social media does as well.

Mobile phones have been the real game changer anyway, we had such mediums like face-pic, msn messenger, chatrooms, faceparty, profile-pic etc when we were growing up. But we were limited to using them on a computer, on dial up limitations. And they all came along when we were already in our teens and were already used to socialising outside. These kids now know how to use a tablet long before they know how to ride a bike.
