Would you be pissed off if someone bought your child a gift is stereotypically for the wrong gender
for example pink things, dolls etc.. for a boy or blue things, cars, toy guns etc.. for a girl
and it was thoughtfully done ??????

nothing wrong with girls playing with stereotypical boys shit, because generally it doesn't have gender to it, just stereotype
but if they bought my boy a doll I'd think they were trying something

It can only be taken as an insult.
More so if I had a son but it's possible to do to a girl too with clothing

Yeah, very.
It's the adults making the choices at that time of their life, need to be sensible.

They can buy my daughter scientific, construction toys or remote control toys, would ideally like there to be some form of feminine twist to it. My son is only allowed masculine toys along with scientific.
Would cuss anyone who try buy something that took the piss.

This thread has made me think about this.
Not just gender stuff, any gift.
I'm gonna ask everyone what it is
last year someone got my older daughter something way too messy to have in the house and she was upset that she opened it then couldn't have it.
Would rather avoid the disappointment
But people should always ask the parents or give an indication anyway

a son being given a doll is not the same thing as a daughter being given something "messy"
you're trying to apply a discussion of shaping gender roles to your comparatively minor inconvenience

Other guy. The topic is about gifts other people get Your children. Gender isn't the only issue

I bought my friends child a mini xylophone. The parents faces were not those of impressed people.
How would you feel about a xylophone?

I understand why they wouldn't like it because of noise and it's the kind of toy a child will hit harder to make more noise
As a music man I will always encourage musical instruments
