  2. This show is unbelievable. Blatant criminality! Frank, funny and provocative, Skint pulls no punches in its look at a community where a life without work is nothing out of the ordinary. Thirty-seven-year-old Dean used to work at the steelworks, but now gets by on benefits. He lives with his wife Claire and their seven children and step-children on the Westcliff estate, one of the most deprived parts of Scunthorpe. He is candid about his feelings and responsibilities towards Claire and his children - he has worked for 23 years and feels he deserves ‘a bit back’, no matter how big his brood. And he emotionally introduces his newborn son as the latest welcome addition to the family. With so many mouths to feed however, Dean and Claire begin to consider whether it’s time for the ‘snip’. In an area of high unemployment, crime is always going to be an issue – and Dean takes a pragmatic approach. With money tight Dean, like many of his friends, uses the service of the local shoplifters whether it’s getting food from ‘unofficial suppliers’ to fill up the fridge or buying stolen deodorant on the cheap – whatever he feels he needs to do for the family. But Dean is all too aware of just how challenging it can be bringing up kids when crime is all around. One of Dean’s neighbours Jordan, has just had her windows smashed in. Jordan’s 15-year-old son Connor has been excluded from seven different schools and relations between mother and son are at breaking point. Connor is supposed to go to a special residential school but would rather spend time with his friends on the estate, many of whom are already getting into trouble. How can school compete with his friends’ adrenalin rush of joyriding bikes around his estate? And how does Dean react as the impact of crime starts to be felt in his own family?

  14. Ghanian Kweku Adoboli, UBS trader charged with £1 billion fraud, jailed for 7 years... cue the "never let an African near money jokes...?" Kweku Adoboli was found guilty of two fraud charges by majority jury Star trader, 32, 'was a gamble away from destroying bank', court hears Clear him of four further false accounting charges but jailed for 7 years Considered one of the UBS's 'rising stars' before losses were revealed One of the most sophisticated banking frauds ever uncovered At one point during his run of losses, rising star City trader Kweku Adoboli, 32, stood to run up losses of $12 billion (£7.5 billion) for UBS. Detective Chief Inspector Perry Stokes, who led the probe into what Adoboli had done, said the he was one of the most sophisticated fraudsters he had come across. Ghanaian-born Adoboli exceeded his multimillion-pound trading limits and failed to hedge trades, allegedly faking records to cover his tracks at the Swiss bank's London office. He admitted the losses but claimed he was pressured by staff to take risks, culminating in bad deals which wiped £2.8 billion off the bank's share value when they were discovered. The jury at Southwark Crown Court, in London, convicted him of one count of fraud linked to the £1.4 billion loss. Adoboli was later found guilty by a majority verdict of a second fraud charge but acquitted of the four other outstanding false accounting charges between October 2008 and September last year. Trial judge Mr Justice Keith gave the jury a majority verdict direction this morning, saying they could deliver a 9-1 verdict on the remaining five charges. Opinions?

  21. This whole show could have been made so much better if Channel 4 hired a venue with a late-licence, advertised it as a "secret location" with competition to get there! Plus if each DJ stuck to the style of music they're known for it would be better. Heads up DJ order now-1 am: Grandmaster Flash 1-2 am: Annie Mac 2-3 am: Erick Morillo 3-4 am: Horse Meat Disco 4-5 am: SOUL II SOUL (JAZZIE B ) 5-6 am: A Trak Someone record the Jazzie B set and post their opinions of it... Night.
  22. Is any one watching the channel 4 house party tonight? The concept is a non stop 6 hour house, soul, dubstep and drum n bass mix with requests, MCing and shout outs. There's no venue, its held in a studio. What would be your perfect line up?
  23. Is Football Racist? - Mon 16 Jul 9pm BBC 3 "Following a season in which football has been rocked by allegations of racism, former Premier league defender Clarke Carlisle explores how far his profession has progressed since the dark days of banana throwing on the terraces, in this one-hour current affairs documentary for BBC Three. Nicknamed ‘Britain’s brainiest footballer’ Clarke has played at all levels, from the Premiership to the fourth division at Northampton Town, and as the chairman of the Professional Footballers Association he feels he has a good grasp of the issues confronting football today. Setting out in the belief that racism has been largely eradicated from the game and that recent incidents are being addressed by the authorities, Clarke faces a stark realisation as he embarks on a journey which brings racism in football very close to home. From the tribalism of clubs and fans to the comparative lack of ethnic minorities on the terraces; the lack of South Asian players and black managers in the professional game and the shockingly overt racism in Poland, one of the host countries for Euro 2012, Clarke emerges with a very different perspective on the ugly face of the beautiful game - especially after his father tells him for the first time of his disturbing and sad experiences of racism while trying to become a professional player. Is Football Racist? hears from a range of voices from across football. Former Liverpool and England players John Barnes and Stan Collymore and Birmingham City’s manager Chris Hughton all share their thoughts and experiences, while Jewish comedian and avid Chelsea fan David Baddiel, former football hooligan Cass Pennant and the Punjabi Wolves, the UK’s largest group of ethnic minority football supporters, give the view from the terraces."
