    Song To Song

After years of waiting patiently for definitive info on Weightless, the film from Terrence Malick set among intersecting love triangles in Austin’s vibrant music scene and starring Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, and Cate Blanchett among many others, we finally got a host of it today, starting with the tidbit that the film is no longer called Weightless. Song to Song is the new title, and if you want to get technical it’s the third the film has had. It was originally called Lawless, but Malick gifted that to his friend John Hillcoat for the Tom Hardy-Shia LaBeouf bootlegger film that came with the cumbersome title The Wettest County in the World. This one will stick though, because one of the other pieces of info we received was a release date, and it’s sooner than you might have thought: March 17th, 2017. No time to change anything now. There’s also an official synopsis: In this modern love story set against the Austin, Texas music scene, two entangled couples — struggling songwriters Faye (Rooney Mara) and BV (Ryan Gosling), and music mogul Cook (Michael Fassbender) and the waitress whom he ensnares (Natalie Portman) — chase success through a rock ’n’ roll landscape of seduction and betrayal. Besides the names I mentioned above and those in the synopsis, Song to Song also stars (deep breath) Christian Bale, Haley Bennett, Val Kilmer, Benicio Del Toro, Clifton Collins Jr., Angela Bettis, Berenice Marlohe, Florence Welch, and Holly Hunter. T-minus 10 weeks and counting.
