  2. Greetings everyone It's been a while since I posted in here, although I still browse quietly. Anyway, I've created a new podcast/show called Talk Da Tings It's basically a platform to highlight, celebrate, and discuss reggae and dancehall music and culture, with a particular focus on the UK side of things. Interviews with artistes, people from all sides of the scene, our opinions, banter, relevant information and discussions on all aspects of the culture. Check it out, my team and I have been doing this for about 6-8 months now, still finding our feet. Support, constructive criticism and ideas welcome! 3. If you've been following the news in Jamaica, you would have heard that this 20 year old yute got muredered in Ninja Man's community. I think this is the second time he's been charged for murder but got off the previous time. I think it was around the time he turned into a Christian. Sorry to hear that a big man like Ninja get caught up in foolishness. Hope he didnt do it and will be freed but do the crime...

  5. # In the beginning, Edsik's Cowboy Riddim (instru) was an experiment, a perfect mix of Reggae Music and Tropical Bass. Two special guests enlightend the beat, Killa P (Roll Deep) & Inja. Together they wrote MORE GANJA, a bomb, mixing Jamaican style, Dancehall & Uk Grime. The dancefloor gonna jump on it. More infos: http://alouettestreet.fr/categorie/2392
  6. I will update this with the newest Dancehall/Reggae and Soca releases, if you have any requests put them in here and I will post them.Delete this if it's not allowed, or add some way to hide this thread from other people

  10. Remember when tunes sounded like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-Qs0BWxF3w http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0bbOpuQiJc Finally dancehall producers have started going for the throwback sound. IMO, Jamaica was patterning itself off of the American import sound (always been the case since the 40s and 50s when they'd pick up Florida blues radio, but Jamaica also pioneered their own styles) and as a result, it all got a bit too hip-hop/RnB sounding, rather than being distinct... I'll get to my point in the next post...(damn video link limit..)
  11. How do I do this? Are there any like Youtube channels or blogs? Or mixtape sites? Haven't been in touch with dancehall in ages.
  12. Released from the confines of a Salt ‘n’ pepper shaker crafted in Manchester by a Jamaican potter comes the fiery sound of Peppery on his ‘debut’ album, ‘Mistaken Identiti’. Originally conceptualised by Mexican and overseen by Fitzroy ‘Heavy’ Nish of Phattrock Entertainment, the 16 track set was launched at the Power House in Manchester, UK, on the 19th of August 2011 at an event, which also marked the launch of Sickle Cell Care Manchester. Born Clayton Brown in Trelawny, Jamaica, Peppery first started his career as Bongo Chilli releasing the album, ‘Real Musician’ on Sativa Records in 2007. Shows around England and the rest of Europe followed with an assortment of collaborators including his mentor, Daddy Freddy as well as Celt Islam, Kush Arora and others. With contributions from Daddy Freddy and Ras Tweed, ‘Mistaken Identiti’ is a mixture of Dancehall, traditional Roots Reggae and “Alternative” music with the backing tracks incorporating both live instrumentation and digital programming. Previously released tracks that have already received favourable airplay include ‘The Score’ and ‘Clap Your Hands’. Come 2011 and his catchphrase “Peppery” has now become Bongo’s second name prompting a change to the entity Peppery aka Bongo Chilli. So Peppery’s debut is actually Clayton’s second album – confused? Don’t be, just savour the Peppery flavours when you press play. The album’s title track may be deemed controversial by some as the subject is the pain caused to the family and friends of loved ones who have lost their lives violently. “Let it be known for the record that I am in no way encouraging anyone to take the law into their own hands & seek revenge” says Peppery asserting, “I am merely highlighting the fact that many people have been killed innocently.” Producers on the project include the aforementioned Mexican of Gone Music, Ganzi of Classiqueinc, Damalistik of Roots Survival Records, Rob of Big Belly Records and DJ Afghan of Soulove Records. The album has been launched in the UK as a limited edition CD on Peppery’s own record label Bongo Chilli Records but the rest of the world will have to wait a little longer before it will eventually surface in their local outlets. On the other hand, those who shop online are now able to purchase the CD directly from the source. Join the Facebook group “Peppery” to find out how or send your queries to [email protected]. You can also listen to some of the tracks from the album here: www.reverbnation.com/peppery

A fusion chef of bassweight, Von D has deftly sliced into unpredictable genres, concocting strange and beautiful new forms. The album sees Von D collaborating with the internationally renowned Foreign Beggars, Phephe, David Boomah (vocalist for Shy FX Murderation) and Riya & Mr Lager, while his previous work has also been remixed by a host of respected dubstep DJ’s including Skream and Tes La Rok. Born into the cultural melting pot of the Paris suburbs, Von D found his soul’s conduit in a beaten up old drum kit. Whilst the riddims of King Tubby alongside the foetal jungle of Photek and Serge Gainsborg were initial inspirations, after forging a successful path as a sound engineer Von D honed his sound sculpting skills to a razor sharp edge. Von D’s productions have been picked up by Skream, arguably one of dubstep’s most successful artists, who snapped up a release for his label Disfigured Dubs. DJ Chef released Von D’s ‘Show Me’ on his Sub Freq imprint, which quickly became one of the most talked about releases of 2009 – so much so that three time DMC World Champion DJ Craze has been supporting the track in recent mixes. Not one to be complacent, Von D’s kept up the pressure with releases on Black Acre, Tempa, Soul Jazz and Argon – enough to attract the attention of BBC Radio 1’s Gilles Peterson who has included a track for his hotly anticipated ‘Brownswood Bubblers’ compilation album. Von D has created a global buzz with his numerous explosive live performances featuring unreleased and exciting material from himself as well as other established producers. Having had a host of successful tours in the United States, Europe and China, Von D has now set his sights on touring New Zealand and Australia. http://www.facebook.com/vondmusic | http://www.facebook.com/bokarecords | Biography Von D, Born into the multi cultural melting pot of the Paris suburbs, a young Von D found his soul’s conduit in a beat up drum kit. While the riddims of King Tubby fused and morphed into the foetal jungle of Photek, Serge Gainsborg issued instructions from the radio. A fusion chef of bassweight, Von D deftly slices into unpredictable genres, concocting strange and beautiful new forms. After forging a professional path as a sound engineer, Von D has honed his sound sculpting skills to a razor sharp edge. Not content with producing some of the scenes freshest music, Dubstep founders like Skream & Tes La Rok have dropped their own flavour on his music by remixing Von D’s tracks “Show Me” & “Truth” respectively. While BBC’s Gilles Peterson, widely acclaimed as a musical tastemaker around the world has included Von D’s track in this hotly anticipated compilation albums, and three time DMC World Champion and one of the worlds hottest hip-hop DJ’s, DJ Craze has been supporting Von D, including Von D’s “Show Me” in his latest mix. With no sign of slowing down, Von D’s immense production has seen his music picked up by the dubstep scene’s number one artist Skream, securing a Von D release for his label Disfigured Dubs, DJ Chef also released Von D’s “Show Me” featuring Phephe on his Sub Freq imprint, going on to be one of the most talked about releases of 2009 and with hugely popular releases on Black Acre and Argon, we can now begin to ready ourselves for one of the most hotly tipped Albums of 2011, forthcoming on Boka Records. Far from the shy studio type, Von D has also created a global buzz with his numerous explosive live performances featuring unreleased and exciting material from Von D as well as other established top producers. From touring the United States or though out Europe, Von D has also reached as far flung as China with New Zealand and Australia also in his sights. Whether his music is either on wax in your room or played out by the artist in front of you, Von D is an act not to be missed, Von D rocking a dancehall near you soon. Best Riddim Ever (dancehall)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFnwBtLrIYI SNM
  18. The blending (or watering down) of dancehall with other musical genres has slowly been securing its footing in Jamaican music. While producers have started to tag new hybrid forms of dancehall with meaningless additives like “pop” “island” or “urban,” what is most likely happening is the globalization of Jamaican sound. With all the combos and (sometimes painful) collabos happening in dancehall right now, it’s refreshing to hear when someone gets it right. Prodigal Entertainment did just that by dropping this new one from UK Grime beacon Wiley. It’s the first track off Prodigal’s soon-to-be-premiered Showa Eski riddim, which will also include other crossover artists like Lady Chann, Ward 21, Natalie Storm, Einstein and Rage. But we’re not calling it “grimehall” or “island grime.” We’re just gonna sit back, vacate our heads and stomp out the beat. http://media.thefader.com/thefader/its-wiley.mp3 Download : Here

  22. Artwork by Pen. The 'Rude Steppa' EP from Broke-N includes two songs that contain massive low end, intelligent sequencing and thoughtfuldrum patterns. Both tracks are dance floor friendly head boppers, and mix well with many styles of dubstep. The VIP of 'Carnival' has a sub friendly dancehall vibe, while the EP's title track 'Rude Steppa' incorporates that sound with darker elements creating a more sinister emotion. It has heavily pressurized growling basslines, big drum sounds, and fits nicely in prime time sets. Both songs will compliment any dj's digital crate.
