Whos better than Vieira ?

Cesc Fabregas is already assured of his place in the Arsenal record books, but their youngest first-team player certainly has the credentials to become an all-time great. Now 20, the Spaniard has grown in stature since making his bow in a League Cup tie against Rotherham at Highbury during October 2003.Little did the watching Gunners faithful know then that soon this combative youngster would be at the heartbeat of the side.Taking on the mantle left by then captain Patrick Vieira when he departed for Juventus during the summer of 2005 was always going to be a tough challenge. But despite his age Cesc Fabregas has filled the void with remarkable proficiency. He could complete the transition by taking over the captain's armband and leading Arsenal's crop of young but undoubtedly talented stars to the kind of success experienced during Vieira's time. Here, Virgin Media Sport compares the two players.Style:FABREGAS - Technically excellent, the young Spaniard has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past two seasons. With an extensive passing range, Fabregas occupies the role of playmaker in the Gunners side, dictating the pace and rhythm of every attack. 9VIEIRA - Strong, tall and athletic, very few players get the better of this imposing midfielder. A danger in the air and hard in the tackle Vieira has built a reputation as the complete midfielder. However, his fiery temper has on occasions undermined his performances and he received nine red cards during his Arsenal career. 8International pedigree:FABREGAS - A relative newcomer to the international scene, the 20-year-old has so far been unable to provide the catalyst for football's perennial underachievers, Spain. Fabregas came head to head with Vieira in the second round of the 2006 World Cup. The Spaniards lost 3-1. 7VIEIRA - Vieira has won both the World Cup and European Championships in an illustrious international career. With over 100 caps to his name, the France captain has become an automatic choice for every French manager since 2000. 10Experience:FABREGAS - Widely regarded as the biggest success of Arsene Wenger's youth policy, Fabregas has played and shone at every level of club football. The Spaniard was an integral part of the Gunner's 2006 UEFA Champions League run where en route to the final the young Catalan eclipsed his former team-mate, Vieira, as Juventus were humbled at Highbury. 7VIEIRA - Having played on every major stage in the game, the Frenchman can draw on a vast wealth of experience that few other players can compete with. An inspirational presence for successful teams in two of European football's most competitive leagues makes Vieira one of the most experienced players around. 9Honours:FABREGAS - A change in stadium, accompanied by a string of big-name departures have meant the Gunners have failed to hit the heights of their EPL-winning campaigns and fans have had to look on with envy as their biggest rivals have spent lavishly. The result, no major silverware since the FA Cup in 2005 and perhaps more significantly since Vieira's departure. 5VIEIRA - Vieira created history in the 2003/2004 season by captaining Arsenal to an unprecedented unbeaten EPL campaign. However, League and Cup doubles in 1998 and 2002 were not enough for the Frenchman. A move to Italy followed where he picked up a Scudetto winners medal with Internazionale. 9Overall scores:Fabregas: 28Vieira: 36
Not Fabregas thats for sure.

Age matters. Vieria has played more football than Cesc, and has won more. When Cesc is 32 then 'Honours' should be compared

alieas you get older you learn new things, you get physically stronger, gain experience and commit less school boy errorswhich all obviously improves you as a player

I agree with that. But comparing them both is silly.Vieira at his peak was untouchable. He wasn't even a DMF he could play anywhere.Diaby is probably the only player i've seen who's similar.

Fab is better now then he was when he made his debut. As he gets older he will get better, more times he plays, themore sitautions he encouter, the more he becomes accustomed to different situations, the better he deals with them....up to a point. He will be sick in a few years when hes at Madrid.

No comparison.Viera is 1 of the best midfielders of all time. The way he could break up play and gallop through a whole team with the ball was nuts.Viera was better at defending and better at attacking/finishing.Fabs a better short passer but no comparison, completely different levels.

WTF is this about? No doubt, Vieira is one of the best midfielders of our generation but why are we comparing him to a a player who is only 20?LolThe fact that people are speaks volumes anyway
