Software for editing videos

I took a couple videos at carnival with a JVC hard drive camcorder.. They're saved in some dumb MOD format.. Nero Showtime plays them properly but windows media player stretches them (they're in 16:9 but WMP plays them as 4:3).. I wanna convert em to WMV but i'm guessing windows media encoder's gonna f*ck em up... I also wanna edit em (just normal cut and paste).. What software will open them and export to wmv?

if anything use virtualdubbut thats kinda hard to get the hang of, n its some free tingnot sure if vegas will open that

TMPGENC is the onevirtual dub seems good just hard to use

Vegas imported it and allowed me to change pixel ratio which is what i needed to do..

Adobe Premier pro. If you got a Mac Final Cut.Theres no point editing on anything else.
