World football's governing body FIFA today voted to explore further the controversial "6+5" laws which would limit the number of foreign players allowed to start any club match to five. The FIFA Congress, meeting in Sydney today, voted in favour of pushing ahead with FIFA president Sepp Blatter's proposal, which he believes will help curb inequality in club competitions, prevent clubs from losing national identity and motivate clubs to train and educate young players. The Congress passed with a 97 per cent majority a decision which will see Blatter and UEFA President Michel Platini explore for Europe "all possible means within the limits of the law to ensure that these crucial sporting objectives are achieved."Football Federation Australia was one of three non-European federations that voiced their support for the proposal and requested it be explored beyond Europe.FFA president Frank Lowy addressed the Congress and said the laws would be essential to the development of the game in Australia."We have a problem that we are losing lots of players," Lowy said."These young boys (aged) between 18-20 go to these countries, get nowhere, get disappointed and they lose football."We know that we are a growing football nation and we need all the players that we can."The proposal is likely to meet fierce opposition from clubs in Europe, particularly in leagues such as the English Premier League, where some squads are almost entirely comprised of foreign players.Blatter hopes to introduce the quota from 2010 with a minimum of four home players, going up to five in 2011 and the full six by 2012.
Remembers the time Chelsea's first 11 was an all foreign side.

Theyre only looking into it.Havent decided yet.But Im looking forward still, alot of players dont get the chance they deserve imoGot some good techincal youngsters in england but they dont get a chance alot of the time due to quicker africans being brough in their place
be serious, no, be very seriousdiscarding all disdain i have for you but that is utter fraffEnglish players IN GENERAL (remember that) are not technical, coaches have said themselves they take big, strong lads over smaller technical ones. That is the ROOT of the problem. That should be addressed.Furthermore, why would you send scouts out to a foreign land, to get players who could not only flop but bring bad rep to your club via false visas, etc. if you had such a fantastic talent pool in your home nation? You wouldn't. That is why 5-20 in the PL would flop momentously in La Liga, Serie A, etc. because alot of them are built on an English core and it just ain't technical enough to hack it. Also, English players already have inflated prices. 15million for Downing :D when Petrov was purchased for just under 5 million. It's beyond a joke, managers are so intent on protecting their players and should I tell you why. Because in other countries such as Spain there are many players on Downing's level but here, Downing is a rare good English player. Basic economics, if a commodity is in short supply in one region (England) then the prices will raise to try to even out the demand with the supply. Once again bringing me to our problem, roots. If the foundations were better than the situation would be more stable. I'm telling you now, this will rape the Premier League. There is no need for it, improve the quality of English players and more English players will get through. Simple. The Premier League is only as good as it because of the diversity of it. Watch an England international match and compare it to an average Premiership match; it ain't on levels. The hybrid of so many different footballing cultures has created the fast paced, physical standard that we all love and appreciate. Bring in these dumb, illegal rules and your forcing substandard English players to come and ruin it. This is clearly a knee jerk reaction to England's poor Euro 2008 qualifiers. That was more to do with the poor management and lack of passion displayed by those playing. Yes, I agree to an extent that there are not enough English players playing in the PL but do not thrust inept players into the team, if they are good they will get through eventually.*IF YOU DON'T WANNA READ THE ABOVE THE JUST READ CONCLUSION*In conclusion, I believe that this will dilute the high standard of the PL and that the true solution is to improve the quality of English players and to fully take advantage at grassroot level. This is just a short term measure and I can assure you that this will be regretted about 3/4 years after it has been implemented by 97% of footballing fans.

The FIFA World Congress convened in Sydney yesterday to moot the issue, voting 155 to 5 (with 40 abstinences) in favour of Blatter’s plan to limit foreign players within clubs. If ultimately passed, the rule would see all clubs forced to field at least six homegrown players per match, in an attempt to encourage the development of local talent in countries flooded by imports. The quota scheme has met with strong opposition in Europe, especially from the continent’s biggest clubs, many of whose squads will have to be overhauled to meet requirements. The European Union have also opposed the scheme, claiming that in its current format it is illegal as it would restrict players’ rights to move freely between EU countries. Thus, Blatter and UEFA president Michel Platini were asked "to explore all means within the limits of the law to ensure that these crucial sporting objectives be achieved."
will have to settle with 3 english players in the final match day squad hopefully
