afc The board - After losing "Mr FA" Dein, we better employ Premier League Scudamore

Recommended Posts

Richard Scudamore heads Arsenal's wish listArsenal are hoping to transform their team on and off the pitch this summer, and could bring in Richard Scudamore as their new chief executive.Scudamore, 47, is well known in the game, having been the Premier League's chief executive since 1999. He is believed to be among three contenders being lined up to replace Keith Edelman, who left the club a month ago. There will be critics who feel Scudamore - who earns £1?million a year - is the wrong man for the job following his handling of the Carlos Tevez affair last year, when the Argentine's move from West Ham to Manchester United took several months to go through.Scudamore also caused controversy when he suggested plans to introduce a 39th Premier League game overseas, prompting strong resistance from supporters across the country. But Arsenal officials will look to the fact that the Premier League has become a major success on a global scale, and income has risen under his leadership. He has also brokered record media deals, the latest being a £2.7?billion broadcast contract for the 20 clubs in the top flight. Arsenal are determined to get the best person for the job and have employed headhunting firm Spencer Stuart to bring in someone with a wealth of experience in the football world. Chelsea business affairs director Paul Smith and London 2012 chief executive Paul Deighton have also been linked with the job.Arsenal director Danny Fiszman said the club were hoping to find a leader who would also increase their commercial income, and were looking to bring in a chief executive and a chief financial officer. Fiszman said: "The headhunters are interviewing various people at the club to get views on what we need. Keith Edelman's role [former managing director] will probably be split."A chief executive will be appointed to look at the footballing side, which was not part of Keith's remit. They will work with the manager. We will also be looking for a CFO who will look after the financial aspects."The CEO will take over the player negotiations from Ken Friar [acting managing director] in due course."
