England travel to Berlin shorn of the majority of Fabio Capello's preferred XI, with criticism from Premier League bosses still ringing in the Italian's ears.A dislocated shoulder suffered in training by Theo Walcott has exasperated Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, while Rafa Benitez has been less than impressed by Capello's insistence that Steven Gerrard make a 400-mile trip to confirm he is injured.Gerrard joins a congested treatment room that already houses key men Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney - with David James and John Terry the only regular starters likely to figure in the German capital.Top flight bosses have derided the timing of the fixture, a number of players may have too, but for those on the periphery of Capello's thinking the game provides a rare chance to impress.Ashley Young could win his first start under the Italian following his flying start to the campaign, although Stewart Downing is another player Capello is keen to try out down the left. Young's Aston Villa team-mate Gabriel Agbohlahor will have to settle for a place on the bench.Terry will captain an inexperienced side, with Matthew Upson and Joleon Lescott vying to partner him at centre-half. A recalled Micah Richards could start at right-back, but faces competition from Glen Johnson, while Wayne Bridge will deputise for club team-mate Ashley Cole on the opposite flank.Carrick's backMichael Carrick has previously been overlooked by Capello but a catalogue of injuries in centre midfield lends the highest stage to the Manchester United man, with Shaun Wright-Phillips, Gareth Barry and most probably Downing making up a middle four.Capello continues to keep Michael Owen in the cold as a rejuvenated Darren Bent partners Jermain Defoe in a new look attack.Germany boss Joachim Low, like Capello, is deprived of many of his top stars. Up to seven first choice players are missing through injury, with uncapped trio Marvin Compper, Tobias Weis and Marcel Schafer all benefiting with call-ups.Schalke's Jermaine Jones is likely to start in central midfield alongside Simon Rolfes, while Miroslav Klose will lead the attack as in-form Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrick Helmes provides support.Germany beat England last year but have not won this fixture in Berlin in seven meetings, the last of which came in 1972. Capello will be dreaming of a repeat of England's last visit to German soil - 2001's famous 5-1 victory in Munich - but will be content enough should those on the cusp of his squad grab the nettle and impress.
